In March of 2014, the MEDC rolled out a new eLearning Lifelong Soft Skills Program on MiTalent.org. These videos were a result of
discussions with employers about the need for soft skills training for many job
seekers entering the workforce.
The goal of this Lifelong Soft Skills eLearning series is to raise
awareness among students and employees about key skills needed for workplace
success. Click here to watch a quick trailer about this innovative free resource.
These 14 eLearning modules on Lifelong Soft Skills are to provide a universally accessible soft skills training resource for the Michigan workforce for basic and foundational skills for the workplace, to help ensure the workforce is ready to succeed in the 21st century. These modules address the following soft skills (click on a skill in the list below to access that specific module):
|
Employers can utilize these modules in a number of different ways. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Share them with current employees as part of their professional development plans;
- Incorporate the modules into new employee orientation processes
- Include a link to the modules on the "career opportunities" page of your website
*While these modules can be completed in any order, it is recommended that the "Humility" module be completed first. This module includes a DiSC personality profile assessment, the results of which are incorporated into all of the other modules.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is currently seeking industry partners for the 2015-2016 program year for the Michigan Advanced Technician Training (MAT2) program.
MAT2 was developed in order to address two critical issues facing the manufacturing and technology industries: a widening skills gap and an aging workforce. This initiative functions similar to an apprenticeship program, where students alternate between classroom instruction and on-the-job training, gaining the necessary hands-on skills and real-world experiences for them to become a successful and productive member of the workforce.
Learn more how your organization may benefit from MAT2 during one of our upcoming webinars: http://puremi.ch/MAT2Webinar

You hear the word "Internship" and you stop listening, right? Because you and your team don't have the time (you think) it requires to set up an internship program, much less babysit college students while the staff workload increases at an alarming rate. Or maybe not. Maybe setting up a program doesn't really take as much time as you think, and isn't really that difficult (as long as you have great resources available - like, maybe the Michigan Internship Initiative).
And MAYBE, just maybe, creating an internship program could actually address several issues that seem to be an ongoing problem for your company that you haven't been able to find a solution for. Until now.
First, check out the "10 Benefits of Starting an Internship Program".
Then, check out the abundance of resources available to you free of charge through the Michigan Internship Initiative. Wouldn't it be great if there were some kind of in-person training and networking session to help you get started?
The founding partners of
the Michigan
Internship Initiative, Hello
West Michigan, and the Prima Civitas
Foundation, have focused the initiative on connecting employers,
educational institutions, and workforce development, while providing employers
with the resources necessary to build a successful internship program. There
are several tools and initiatives aimed at connecting interns (talent) to
employers, but it is imperative that the right structure is in place to make
that connection a success.
If you are an employer
interested in learning more about starting an internship program, or are
looking to enhance your current internship program, there are several upcoming
opportunities to do so! Simply choose the session that works best with your
