Female veterans of Michigan - it's time to be heard

MI Women Veterans

Michigan women who served in the military, the Michigan Women's Commission needs your input to help identify current needs of women who have military service. If you are a female veteran, please consider participating in an online survey consisting of 47 questions and comment sections. It is completely voluntary, confidential and you can skip any question you do not want to answer. Your feedback is important to help identify service gaps and preferences.

The Michigan Women's Commission (MWC) was created in 1968 with the mission of improving the lives of Michigan women. The MWC has worked on many issues in the past, but its current priorities are women in business, women veterans, and human trafficking.

Take a few minutes to take the survey and have your voice heard.

Helping Our Heroes: Michigan Works! Providing ‘Priority of Service’

Stories of Michigan's military veterans and the people dedicated to their success.

Gary Williams

As soon as veteran Gary Williams completed his master’s degree in education he went to work looking for a new job.  As a veteran of the U.S. Army, Gary assumed his new degree would help him land a position. However, he didn’t anticipate how difficult his job search would turn out to be. Finally Gary turned to the Michigan Works! Agency (MWA) system, where he discovered the many services provided to veterans. With the help of local Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) Rebecca Lee, Gary was able to improve his resume as well as make many key modifications to his professional career portfolio.

“Rebecca was knowledgeable, friendly and honest about my resume and what I should do to make improvements,” said Gary Williams. “Her suggestions provided me with a resume that propelled my job search to the next level.”

Taking advantage of his connections within the Michigan Army National Guard, and armed with his updated and improved resume and new portfolio, Gary secured an adjunct instructor position with Henry Ford Community College as an Instructional Designer.

“It was very rewarding to help Gary, who risked his life in serving our country. When veterans come to my office, they can expect to have their concerns treated as if they were my own, by working extra hard to ensure they are well informed about programs and services available to veterans throughout the great state of Michigan as well as ensuring that they have a rocking awesome resume that reflects their honorable service to our great country,” Rebecca said. “I’m very happy that Gary found a position that utilizes his talents, and I wish him all the best in his career.”

Michigan DVOP Specialists are employed by the Michigan Workforce Development Agency, Veterans’ Services Division and are located in many Michigan Works! Agencies throughout Michigan.

The Battle of Đắk Tô - November 3 to 22, 1967

Dak To

Image created by Steven Munoz, DVOP Specialist (Ferndale) from the Michigan Workforce Development Agency, Veterans' Services Division.

The Battle of Đắk Tô was a series of major engagements of the Vietnam War that took place between November 3 to 22, 1967, in Kon Tum Province, in the Central Highlands of the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam). The action at Đắk Tô was one of a series of People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) offensive initiatives that began during the second half of the year. North Vietnamese attacks at Lộc Ninh (in Bình Long Province), Song Be (in Phước Long Province), and at Con Thien and Khe Sanh (in Quảng Trị Province), were other actions which, combined with Đắk Tô, became known as "the border battles."  Continue reading from Wikipedia.
