Some of Battle Creek's premier companies are searching for hard-working employees, and more than 40 employers want to meet you at the 2014 Battle Creek Regional Job Fair. Job-seekers are encouraged to complete online applications for companies that require them, prior to attending the job fair. Job seekers should also bring multiple copies of their resume to hand out to employers. Companies will have the opportunity to schedule interviews during the afternoon of the event; therefore, job seekers should come prepared.

MDOT Now Hiring Temporary Transportation Workers

The Michigan Department of Transportation is seeking to hire temporary transportation maintenance workers (October 27, 2014 – March 13, 2015) for the following Southwest Michigan counties: Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren.

Job Requirements:

  • Class A CDL w/an X or N endorsement
  • Air brake endorsement
  • Less than five points on driving record
  • High school diploma (preferred)
  • 3-5 years of experience operating farm or construction equipment
  • Ability to pass a drug screen, DOT physical and a reference/security check

Job Details:

Requires manual labor and operation of heavy-duty dump trucks with snowplows, underbody blades, front-end loaders, salt spreaders, and liquid applications to remove ice and snow accumulation from highways and bridges. Position also includes: pot hole patching, guardrail repair, cable median barrier repair, sign repair, etc.

Utility Inspection Technician with Flint Surveying and Engineering Co.

Flint Surveying and Engineering Co. is currently seeking a Utility Inspection Technician for the Swartz Creek/Flint area.

The Utility Inspection Technician inspects and compiles data on power lines, electric utility equipment, and telecommunication facilities attached to utility poles in the right-of-way. The Technician uses a field computer linked with a GPS unit to record data at each utility structure. The position is 100 percent outdoors and requires hiking from pole to pole with all pertinent equipment including: Computer, GPS receiver, and Digital Camera. FSE provides complete training of specific task needs for the position. 

The ideal candidate will have an associate degree in engineering, GIS or surveying, and a valid driver’s license is required. Electric utility or telecommunication experience is preferred.
