State of Michigan to host largest MiVirtualCareerFair to date on Wednesday, August 27, 2014
Job seekers and Michigan employers can connect with each other through a State-sponsored virtual career fair on Wednesday, August 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. MiVirtualCareerFairs, a tool of Pure Michigan Talent Connect, bring together Michigan employers and talent from across the state and the globe in an online, virtual environment.
“MiVirtualCareerFair is another innovative tool to connect employers with qualified talent. With more than 80,000 jobs currently posted on the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website, MiVirtualCareerFairs provide an opportunity for job seekers to apply for Michigan jobs, explore career development resources and interact with hiring staff,” said Amy Cell, Senior Vice President for Talent Enhancement at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “Since 2012, the state’s twelve virtual career fairs have connected more than 140 employers and more than 20,750 job seekers.”
Jobs with 35 Michigan employers of varying industries will be featured at the August 27 event, making it the largest to date. With assistance from the Michigan Works! System and event sponsors the Detroit Regional Chamber and MICHauto, the August 27 MiVirtualCareerFair will feature a number of companies seeking skilled talent in the automotive, engineering and manufacturing industries.
There’s no cost for job seekers to participate. Registration information and registered employers can be found at http://www.michiganvirtualcareerfair.com/. During virtual events, job seekers can explore customized employer booths, interact one-on-one with participating employers and search and apply for job opportunities. In addition, job seekers can access information about career development programs and resources in the Pure Michigan Talent Connect booth and event resource lounge. All job openings posted during the events are accessible to participants for 30 days after event

From Wikipedia: The Allied Invasion of Italy was the Allied landing on mainland Italy on 3 September 1943, by General Harold Alexander's 15th Army Group comprising Lieutenant General Mark Clark's U.S. Fifth Army and General Bernard Montgomery's British Eighth Army, during the Second World War. The operation followed the successful invasion of Sicily during the Italian Campaign. The main invasion force landed around Salerno on the western coast in Operation Avalanche, while two supporting operations took place in Calabria (Operation Baytown) and Taranto (Operation Slapstick).

Mark your calendars and plan to attend one of these expos near you. Veteran Expos are two-day events to connect veterans with resources in employment, education, healthcare, and quality of life. MVAA is working with the US Chamber of Commerce, other state agencies and community partners to bring together employers, healthcare providers, educational institutions, counselors, and other community resources and associations that serve veterans and their families. The Michigan Veteran Expos will provide on-site assistance with:
- Employment counseling, such as resume writing and interview preparation - Hiring opportunities and interviews - Health screenings - Meetings with accredited service officers - Enrollment in state and federal veteran benefit programs - Educational programs - Recreational opportunities - Signing up for a veterans’ designation on the driver’s license

Profiles of the men and women of the Veterans' Services Division of the state of Michigan's Workforce Development Agency, working every day to help veterans find employment and Michigan employers acquire the talent they need to grow and thrive.
We are proud to welcome the return of Daren Young to the Veterans’ Services Division (VSD). Daren will assume his new position as Regional Manager on September 1, 2014. Based out of Grand Rapids, he will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of Region II, including overseeing our continued efforts toward seamlessly integrating our services into the Michigan Works! System.
Daren’s professional experience in Workforce Development started in 2007 as a Business Consultant for First Coast Workforce Development, followed by increased responsibilities as a Program Manager for Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids, VSD Local Veterans Employment Representative, and currently as the Assistant Director for U.S. Department of Labor (VETS).
Daren and his family reside in Grand Rapids. He received his B.S. Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from Columbia College, Jacksonville, FL.

Loc Performance Products is a world class manufacturing company that produces the suspension and final drives for the entire arsenal of US military tracked vehicles. Loc is also the provider of important subsystems on numerous tactical wheeled vehicles. In addition to producing content for various US Army combat vehicles, the company added in-house painting and packaging capabilities to satisfy military specifications and shipping requirements. Loc operates out of a single 250,000 square foot facility in Plymouth MI.
Loc's core processes include machining, assembly, testing, welding, painting, kitting, packaging and design. Leveraging its strong history of building, rebuilding, and improving the service life of Final Drive gearbox assemblies for the US Army’s fleet of tracked vehicles, the company officially launched product development capabilities in 2009.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will headline the 2014 Selfridge Open House and Air Show at Selfridge Air National Guard Base Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7. The show will feature a wide assortment of military aircraft and equipment displays, along with a number of civilian acrobatic aerial performances. Admission to the show on the military base is free and the parking is free.
Tens of thousands of visitors typically attend the show on the air base, with thousands more watching from boats on Lake St. Clair or from neighborhood viewing parties. Officials recommend arriving early to beat the traffic and spending the day on the base. Refreshments and other vendors will be available. The gates to the Open House open at 8 a.m., with flying to start late morning.
Selfridge Air National Guard Base is home to 127th Wing of the Michigan Air National Guard, which flies both the KC-135 Stratotanker and the A-10 Thunderbolt II. The base is also home to units of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Dept. of Homeland Security. All of the various types of aircraft assigned to the base, including several military and DHS helicopters, will be on display during the open house.
Selfridge Air National Guard Base is located east of Mount Clemens along the shore of Lake St. Clair, accessible for the open house from Interstate 94 exit 241 (21 Mile Road) or exit 237 (North River Road). No camping or other overnight accommodations are permitted on the base.
