Natural Resources Commission to meet Thursday in Roscommon

The Michigan Natural Resources Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting Thursday, March 19, at the Ralph A. MacMullan Conference Center, 104 Conservation Drive, in Roscommon.

The day begins at 10 a.m. with a meeting of the Marketing, Partnership, Youth and Outreach Advisory Committee, which will hear updates on Department of Natural Resources’ marketing research activities and an analysis of 2014 hunting and fishing license sales.

At 1 p.m., the Policy Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries will discuss fishing regulations, bear regulations and license quotas, the deer management plan, and the DNR Wildlife Division’s 2014 annual report.

The Committee of the Whole meets at 3 p.m. to receive DNR Director Keith Creagh’s report and a legislative update. The committee will hear about the DNR’s Dam Management Program grants, Invasive Species Program grants, and results from the most recent Upper Peninsula moose survey.

At 4 p.m., Brian Price of the Leelanau Conservancy will receive a Partners in Conservation Award. Price, the conservancy’s first director who served from 1988 to 2014, is being honored for his consistent efforts to strategically work with landowners, government officials and other conservation stakeholders to protect land on the Leelanau Peninsula.

Immediately following the presentation, the NRC will receive public comments. Those wishing to make public comments before the NRC should contact Cheryl Nelson, executive assistant to the NRC, at 517-284-6237 or nelsonc@michigan.gov to register.

Following public comments, DNR Director Creagh is scheduled to announce his decisions on several land transactions, including a revised land transaction application submitted by Graymont, Inc. For full background on Graymont’s proposals, visit the DNR website www.michigan.gov/graymontproposal.
