Burt Lake Maple Bay boating access site temporarily closed for repairs
Sept. 9-11 

 

The Department of Natural Resources today announced that the Burt Lake Maple Bay boating access site, in Cheboygan County, will temporarily close Sept. 9-11 for repairs.

As one of the largest inland lakes in the state and part of the Inland Water Route, improvements at this site will greatly enhance services to the boating public. The repairs at this site are supported through the Michigan State Waterways Fund, a restricted fund derived from boat registration fees and a portion of the Michigan marine fuel tax for the construction, operation and maintenance of recreational boating facilities.

Alternate boating access sites are available at nearby Burt Lake State Park and the Indian River Marina boat launch. The state forest campground will remain open during this time.

Michigan is one of the nation’s leaders in registered watercrafts, approaching nearly 1 million registered vessels. Boaters enjoy more than 11,000 inland lakes, 36,000 miles of rivers and streams and 3,000 miles of freshwater shoreline – more than any other state in the nation.

A Recreation Passport is required for any motor vehicle entering a Michigan state park, boat launch, state forest campground or nonmotorized state trailhead parking lot. Residents can purchase the Passport for just $11 ($5 for motorcycles) at the time of Michigan license plate renewal through Secretary of State. Forgot to check “YES” during renewal? Residents and nonresidents can purchase a Recreation Passport window sticker during regular business hours at state parks.
