Ironton boat launch ramp replacement to begin Sept. 16
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recently announced that beginning on Monday, Sept. 16, the Ironton boat launch on Lake Charlevoix (Charlevoix County) will be receiving a new ramp. The replacement project is expected to take about two weeks, and boaters should expect partial and complete shutdowns during this time.
The DNR wants to ensure the safety of all users. The boat launch will be reopened as soon as safe passage is possible. For questions or concerns regarding this project, please contact Tom Copenhaver at 231-582-9151.
Other boat launches nearby on Lake Charlevoix include Dutchman’s Bay (Charlevoix County) and the Boyne City Marina. Michigan, approaching nearly 1 million registrations, is one of the nation’s leaders in registered watercrafts. Boaters enjoy more than 11,000 inland lakes, 36,000 miles of rivers and streams and 3,000 miles of freshwater shoreline – more than any other state. This project is supported through the Michigan State Waterways Fund, which is comprised of revenues received from boat registrations and marine fuel taxes. The revenues are dedicated by state law for the acquisition, development and management of boating facilities.
