Kick off the new year with three additional Michigan deer hunting opportunities! Understand the important hunt information below.

Ionia and Montcalm Firearm Hunt

Where and when can I hunt?

  • Jan. 4-7 and 11-14
  • Public and private land in the following townships: Easton, Ionia, Keene, Lyons, North Plains, Orleans, Otisco and Ronald in Ionia County; and Bloomer, Bushnell, Crystal, Day, Evergreen and Ferris in Montcalm County.

What equipment can I use?

  • This is a firearm-only hunt.
  • The following licenses are valid: deer license, combination deer license, private/public-land antlerless deer licenses for DMU 354 (must be used in DMU 354), private/public-land antlerless deer licenses for DMU 419 (must be used in DMU 419).
  • Antlerless deer may be tagged using the deer license or combination deer license. All other license restrictions apply.

Mandatory deer check and additional information:
Hunters participating in this hunt will be required to turn in heads of harvested deer within 72 hours of harvest for disease testing. Visit www.mi.gov/deercheck for a list of available check stations and self-service drop boxes. All rules and regulations for the firearm deer season apply.   • As a reminder, bait cannot be used after Jan. 1.
  • Remember to wear hunter orange!

Urban Deer Management Zone Extended Archery Season

Where and when can I hunt?

  • Jan. 1-31
  • Public and private land in the following counties: Macomb, Oakland and Wayne.

What equipment can I use?

  • This is an archery-only hunt.
  • The following licenses are valid: deer license, combination deer license or antlerless deer license.

  • As a reminder, bait cannot be used after Jan. 1.

Alpena County Antlerless Firearm Hunt

Where and when can I hunt?

  • Jan. 4-7 and 11-14
  • Private land only in Alpena County south of M-32.

What equipment can I use?

  • This is an antlerless, firearm-only season.
  • The following licenses are valid to take an antlerless deer during this hunt: deer license, deer combination license or private-land antlerless deer license for DMU 487.

Deer check and additional information:
Hunters participating in this hunt are encouraged to turn in heads of harvested deer for bovine TB testing. Visit www.mi.gov/deercheck for a list of available check stations. All rules and regulations for the firearm deer season apply. See the Michigan Hunting and Trapping Digest for details.

  • No matter where you are in Michigan, you can find public hunting land. HAP - Hunting Access Program

  • There are private lands open to public hunting through the Hunting Access Program. HAP is a voluntary land-leasing program. There are 1000’s of private land acres across the state there are open to public hunting.
