Grant workshops for invasive species projects offered in
Detroit, Hastings, Mackinaw City and Munising

It’s no secret that invasive species present big environmental challenges for communities throughout Michigan. To help representatives of local, federal and tribal units of government, nonprofit organizations and universities better understand the 2015 Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program, the state of Michigan is offering workshops in June and July in Detroit, Hastings, Mackinaw City and Munising.

Organizations interested in undertaking an invasive species project are encouraged to attend one of the four workshops to learn about funding opportunities available through this year’s program. These 2015 workshops replace the webinar program utilized in 2014.

Staff from the Michigan departments of Natural Resources, Environmental Quality and Agriculture and Rural Development will explain program goals, 2015 focus areas, applicant eligibility and the application procedure. To encourage regional collaboration in southern Michigan, the Detroit and Hastings workshops each will offer an optional discussion session where attendees can learn more about collaborating to develop cooperative invasive species management areas.

In the first round of Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program funding announced earlier this year, 20 grant projects shared more than $4 million,” said Joanne Foreman, DNR Invasive Species Program communications coordinator. “If you’re interested in learning how 2015 funding will work, these workshops are an excellent place to start.” Workshops are set for:

Mackinaw City – Thursday, June 25, 1 to 3 p.m.
Audie’s Restaurant
314 Nicolet St.
