CPG Survey Monkey: Formatting Issue Resolved

The CPG survey monkey tool contained several ‘select all that apply’ questions that were not formatted correctly.  This has been corrected.  If you did not submit your CPG or did not fully complete the questions due to this issue, you can now go back into the survey and amend your responses as necessary – even if you’ve already previously hit the submit button.  Please note, to get back to your survey responses, you must access the survey from the original link and from the same computer you used to take the survey.  If you cleared your cookies since that time and can’t get into your original responses, please contact Katie Dunkle-Reynolds. Remember, this survey must be completed by COB on Friday, February 14, 2020.

DEPR MCM Webinar - Postponed

The DEPR-hosted Medical Countermeasure webinar scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 2020, has been postponed due to staff obligations in the Community Health Emergency Coordination Center (CHECC). This webinar, focused on state/local plans for requesting medical countermeasures, will be rescheduled for a date in March. Please contact Jason Smith with any questions.

MISNS SharePoint Drill

The MISNS SharePoint Drill scheduled for March 18, 2020, will proceed as planned. An exercise plan is currently under development with anticipated release to local health departments and regional partners in late February. For this drill only, existing formularies on SharePoint will be replaced with a formulary outlining items for prophylaxis and treatment specific to the drill scenario. The scenario this year will be focused on pneumonic plague. Please direct any formulary questions to Jason Smith.

Local health departments are also encouraged to verify access to the MISNS SharePoint Site (mirequest.org) in the coming weeks. Any questions regarding access to the SharePoint site, existing notification rosters, and instructions can be directed to Jeannie Byrne.

Mental/Behavioral Health Resources Available

The National Disaster Distress Helpline (DDH) at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is an available resource with 24/7 emotional support and crisis counseling for anyone in the U.S./territories experiencing distress or other mental health concerns related to the Coronavirus outbreak. Calls (1-800-985-5990) and texts (text TalkWithUs to 66746) are answered by trained counselors from a network of independently-operated crisis centers located across the U.S., who will listen to what’s on the caller’s/texter’s mind, exploring coping and other available supports, and offer referrals to community resources for follow-up care and support.
Callers to the DDH (1-800-985-5990) in the U.S. who speak Mandarin, Cantonese, and other Chinese dialects as their primary language can connect with counselors in these and over 100+ additional languages via third-party interpretation services; see attached for a summary of DDH information in Simplified Chinese or visit http://bit.ly/395INgp.

In addition, the Center for Traumatic Stress has a webpage up with mental health resources related to the COVID-19 outbreak.

New 2020 Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) Guidance

On February 5, 2020, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released new Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) National guidance for exercise design, development, conduct and evaluation.  HSEEP directly supports the National Preparedness System by providing a consistent approach to exercises and is an effective tool for exercise planners and practitioners. As a part of the release, FEMA will be hosting a series of weekly webinars to provide information and highlights of the changes. Attached is a copy of the revised HSEEP Guidance, Summary of the Proposed Changes, HSEEP FAQ and Webinar Schedule.

FDA to Test Pandemic Influenza Antiviral Drug for Possible Additional Expiry Extension

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) plans to test the efficacy of lots of Tamiflu capsules that exceed 10 years of shelf life and are still being held in pharmaceutical stockpiles for a future pandemic influenza response. Once testing results are available, the FDA may advise state public health officials responsible for storing stocks of Tamiflu about possible further extensions of the antiviral drug. Currently, the FDA advises state public health officials to continue storing Tamiflu capsules that exceed 10 years of shelf life under labeled storage conditions and to not destroy the product until further guidance is available. The FDA does not have a timeframe as to when the testing and analysis will be completed. For questions, contact Mary Macqueen or Jason Smith.
