DWSD offers payment assistance plan for low-income residents

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department is now offering an innovative payment assistance plan to help low-income residents pay their water bills. The Water Residential Assistance Program launched this week and provides qualifying customers at or below 150 percent of the federal poverty threshold, with help in paying current and past-due water bills. WRAP is a Great Lakes Water Authority regional program offered in several counties, including Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb. The program will be administered through the Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency in Detroit. To apply for the WRAP, residents may call Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency (on or after March 1) at 313-386-WRAP (9727) or go to www.waynemetro.org/wrap.

City of Detroit Office of Homeland Security Certifies CERT Volunteers

The City of Detroit Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management has certified the latest class of Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) volunteers. Fourteen participants completed the four-day, 20-hour class on Saturday, Feb. 20, at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit. For those interested in receiving free CERT training, the next four-day class will be May 12-14, and May 21 at Greater Grace Temple, located at 23500 W. Seven Mile Road. City launches new Open Data portal for demolition project

Detroit has launched a new section of its Open Data Portal that provides information on each of the more than 7,700 residential and commercial building demolitions it has conducted since January 2014. The new site includes the date of the demolition, the price, and the contractor that performed the work. Visitors to the site also can map and chart the data to view where all of the demolitions have occurred and various trends in the project.

District 1 Community Meeting and Opportunity Fair

Join Mayor Mike Duggan for the District 1 Community Fair and Opportunity Fair on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at 7 p.m. at Greater Burnette Baptist. The Opportunity Fair begins at 5:00 p.m. Community meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. and adjourns promptly at 8:30 p.m. Parking is available in the parking lot adjacent to the church. This is the first in a series of community meetings as outlined in the 2012 Detroit City Charter.
