The DEQ today announced a $572,750 loan to the city of Auburn Hills for environmental cleanup at a vacant property downtown, at the corner of Auburn Road and Squirrel Road.
These response activities will help facilitate the development of a long-time vacant, contaminated property into a mixed-use development known as the EDGE Lofts, which will include both residential and retail uses.
The EDGE Lofts project is expected to create eight to ten new jobs and will result in increased opportunities to shop, eat and live in downtown Auburn Hills.
The Brownfield Redevelopment Program provides funding to local governments for environmental response activities on brownfield properties where redevelopment is proposed. Brownfield properties are vacant or abandoned properties with known or suspected environmental contamination.
