The DEQ today announced more than $172 million in loans awarded to fund wastewater or drinking water projects needed to improve water quality and public health around the state.
The loans include more than $3 million in principal loan forgiveness.
The Clean Water State Revolving Fund, or SRF, and the Stormwater, Asset Management, and Wastewater, or SAW, programs provide low-interest loan financing for necessary wastewater facility improvements. The Drinking Water Revolving Fund, or DWRF, provides low-interest loan financing for necessary public drinking water facility improvements.
With interest rates below those otherwise available in the open market, funding infrastructure projects through these three state-administered loan programs allows recipients to pass the savings along to the customer base of their wastewater or drinking water systems.
The local units of government receiving SRF loan assistance are:
• Fenton - $935,000 with $100,000 in principal loan forgiveness
• Malletts Creek Drain Drainage District - $2.175 million with $150,000 in principal loan forgiveness
• Pontiac Wastewater Treatment Facility Drainage District - $9.84 million with $1 million in principal loan forgiveness
• Dearborn - $12 million
• Clinton Township - $5.035 million
• Detroit - $114.03 million with $1.5 million in principal loan forgiveness
The local units of government receiving SAW loan assistance are:
• Park West Drain Drainage District - $1.755 million
• Oakland-Macomb Interceptor Drain Drainage District - $8.49 million
The local units of government receiving DWRF loan assistance are:
• Bay County - $7 million
• Northport - $800,000 with $104,750 in principal loan forgiveness
• Grand Rapids - $10 million with $259,250 in principal loan forgiveness
The SRF was established in 1988, and has since provided low-interest loans totaling more than $4 billion. The SAW was established in 2013, and has since provided two low-interest loans in the amount of $10.245 million. The DWRF was established in 1997, and has since provided low-interest loans totaling more than $800 million.
