Dear Educators, Professionals, and Community Members,
The Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Child and Family Services, and the Maine Department of Education recognize the challenges that each of you encounter in your continued interactions with children and families during this COVID-19 crisis. We know that some children and families are struggling as stress, substance use, financial limitations, mental health, domestic violence, and other risk factors compounded by the current isolation impacts on child safety. It can be difficult to engage with and assess how a family is doing through phone calls, video chats, and other virtual communication. The attached documents were created in the hopes that they will assist you in determining if supports and intervention are required to ensure a child is safe in their home during this difficult time.
Please feel free to share these documents.
Thank you and take care,
Office of Child and Family Services, in partnership with the Maine Department of Education
