UPDATE from Maine DEP on Catalyst Mill

AUGUSTA – Maine Department of Environmental Protection released Friday the following update with regard to an incident at the Catalyst Mill where thermal seal water used in the paper-making process leaked into the Androscoggin River on Thursday.

“Maine DEP staff was on site today at the Catalyst Mill to assess the situation and offer assistance to staff at the Mill. The mill currently has an independent contractor working to mobilize the paper fiber material along the river bank with water hose pressure and then collecting it with a vacuum truck. DEP will revisit the site next week to monitor their progress,” according to David Madore, Director of Communications at DEP.
