Commemorate Human Rights Day

Plan ahead for a thoughtful discussion about human rights in your classroom, and get support using interactive activities and multimedia on Thinkport.  Both of these skill-building content-literacy activities are aligned to standards, include helpful technology usage tips, and provide handy teacher and student resources.

The 1960’s: A Decade of Human Rights Struggles: Students read an excerpt from a transcript of Nelson Mandela’s “I am prepared to die” speech, complete a graphic organizer, and then take a brief formative assessment of their understanding. (Grades 9-10)

Woman Crusaders for Rights: Students read excerpts from speeches by famous activists, including Eleanor Roosevelt’s “The Struggle for Human Rights,”  in order to separate facts from opinions. (Grades 6-7)

Digital Innovation Program: PBS is excited to announce the fourth annual Digital Innovators Program for tech-savvy K-12 educators. The program recognizes educators nationwide who are incorporating digital media in classrooms and serving as leaders in educational technology. The application period for the 2016 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovators Program opens December 1. The deadline for entries is Monday, February 8, 2016.
