Guide to Buying Green with BISM

Blind Industries & Services of Maryland and Maryland Department of General Services has created a guide for buying green products on BISMs statewide contract with DGS. See the guide on this page for green product search tips and listings. 

Guides to Buying Green on MRO contracts

The Maryland Department of General Services currently has statewide Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) Contracts with W.W. Grainger, Fastenal and MSC Industrial Supply. These contracts each have a corresponding guide to help identify and purchase green products. These guides include information on how to search and filter the websites as well as listings of certified green products.

Update to Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Best Practices Manual The Maryland Green Purchasing Committee has created an update to their Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) Best Practices Manual. The manual includes an introduction to EPP, information on procurement in Maryland, implementing EPP and additional resources and examples.     The updated manual can be found on the DGS website here.

Green Purchasing Vendors' Fair Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments will be hosting a vendors’ fair with the goal of demonstrating green and environmentally friendly products. The Green Purchasing Vendors' Fair will be held January 29th in Washington, DC. Click here for more information and to register.

• The other side of purchasing is waste disposal. Maryland Department of the Environment is hosting the Zero Waste Plan Forum in Baltimore on December 16, 2014. The Plan centers on a number of waste reduction, reuse, recycling and energy recovery goals, and policy reforms to nearly eliminate the inefficient disposal of solid waste and wastewater by 2040.
