Department of Transportation Provides Traffic Information for the Grand Opening of the Casino

  

BALTIMORE, MD (August 19, 2014) – Today, Baltimore City Department of Transportation Director was joined by the representatives from the Fire Department, Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management and the new Horseshoe Casino to provide pertinent information for the grand opening of the facility. With opening day quickly approaching, patrons should plan ahead and tune into local stations for updated traffic reports.

“The Department of Transportation has been coordinating with numerous agencies to prepare for the Casino’s opening day,” said Director Johnson. “With several events happening simultaneously in the downtown area, traffic volumes will be heavy and citizens are encouraged to plan ahead, use alternate parking locations or utilize public transportation.”

 

Large crowds are expected to attend the grand opening festivities of the Casino when it opens its doors to the public on Tuesday, August 26^th. In addition, baseball fans will be attending the first place Oriole’s home game. It is important that patrons attending events in the area plan wisely, know the route to their destinations and pay attention to posted parking restrictions.

 

Motorists are strongly advised to avoid parking in neighborhoods in the vicinity of the stadiums. All posted parking restrictions will be strictly enforced and vehicles parked in violation may be ticketed and towed.

 

Please note that parking will be limited in the casino garage and it is expected to reach full capacity very early. Patrons attending the event are encouraged to use public transportation such as the Light Rail and MTA bus lines #27 and #51, or park in downtown garages.

 

Those who choose to drive to the casino should park in downtown garages located north and east of the casino. A temporary Charm City Circulator shuttle will run along Pratt and Lombard Streets to transport patrons to the casino during the first week of operations. Signs will be posted along the temporary route and additional information can be found at www.CharmCityCirculator.com.

 

During the first three weeks of the casino opening, there will be other large events downtown that will generate considerable traffic volumes and demand for parking, notably in the stadium lots. Planning a casino visit when stadium events are not scheduled will minimize delays. Traffic Enforcement Officers along with Baltimore City Police will be facilitating the movement of traffic in the area.
