Water Main Repair Work Along Howard Street

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that a portion of N. Howard Street will close for water main repair work.

Beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2013, the Baltimore City Department of Public Works will begin work to replace an 80 year-old valve, vault and connecting water mains on N. Howard Street between W. North Avenue and Mount Royal Avenue. The work will involve closing this portion of N. Howard Street for a period of three to four weeks. Detours will be in effect during this time and variable message signs will be placed in the area to notify commuters of the closure.

This repair work is part of a larger series of accelerated improvements to the City’s aging water infrastructure. Over the next five years, Baltimore will replace 150 miles of water mains at a cost of $300 million.  This work, along with future main and valve replacements, will ensure that Baltimore City’s water service will remain reliable by eliminating old lines, thus reducing the chances of water main and valve breaks.

Once repairs are finished along N. Howard Street, the roadway will reopen for commuters. Motorists traveling in this vicinity are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes.
