DPW Offers Important Service Reminders about Christmas Tree Mulching and Leaf Collections

BALTIMORE, MD — Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) Director Rudolph S. Chow, P.E., today offered the following important reminders to Baltimore City residents about curbside leaf collection and Christmas tree mulching and collection services.

Curbside Leaf Collection of up to 20 bags by appointment ends Monday, Jan. 4, 2016.

DPW’s Bureau of Solid Waste has collected bagged leaves curbside, on Mondays, with an appointment, since mid-October. To take advantage of the January 4 bagged leaf collection, residents must make an appointment to have them picked up by calling 311 before 6 p.m. on Sunday, January 3. With an appointment, up to twenty (20) bags of leaves will be collected.

As a reminder: DPW will continue to collect bagged leaves weekly on the regularly scheduled trash collection day. Solid Waste crews will collect up to 5 bags of leaves from each address every week.

Residents need to put leaves in clear or labeled bags and place them at their regular mixed refuse collection location and not in the public right-of-way.

In addition, residents can also drop off bagged leaves at one of the five Citizen Convenience locations:

Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.:
Quarantine Road Sanitary Landfill – 6100 Quarantine Road

Christmas Tree Collection

DPW will offer curbside collection of trees from Tuesday, December 29, 2015 through Friday, January 29, 2016.  Residents should set out trees on their regularly scheduled trash collection day at the same location where their trash is collected.

Tree Mulching

Tree mulching for Baltimore City residents starts Saturday, January 2, 2016 and continues through January 30, 2016.   Mulching services will be offered from Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Reedbird Citizen Convenience Center, 701 Reedbird Avenue.

Trees must be free of tinsel, decorations, nails, or any other foreign material.  Residents may bring their own bags or containers if they wish to collect mulch for their own use.

Citizens are encouraged to continue to recycle wrapping paper and recyclable packaging from gifts.  For more information about recycling please call 311 or visit publicworks.baltimorecity.gov.
