Two LMPD Forums Set for October

Our friends from the LMPD 3rd and 7th Divisions are hosting two upcoming forums. Please come out, meet those who serve and protect our area, and let’s talk about how we can work together to keep our community a safe and wonderful place to live and work. At both forums Home Depot will have tools and demos on how to secure your home.

14th 6-8p: LMPD 7th District Community Partnership Forum, Highview Baptist Church, 7711 Fegenbush Ln., Crime prevention tips & info, networking, door prizes, food and more.

21st 6p: LMPD 3rd Division Crime Prevention Forum, SW Government Center (7219 Dixie Hwy.), crime updates for specific neighborhoods, how to get “real time” crime info, refreshments, door prizes.

Manufacturing Training, College & Career Expo

Training Opportunities:

Need to acquire manufacturing job skills before you apply for a job? The Kentucky Manufacturing Career Center offers a four-week Certified Production Training course, developed by the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council, to prepare job seekers for a manufacturing career. To register for the Oct. 6 - 31 class or the Nov. 3 - Dec. 5 (skip Thanksgiving Week) class, you must attend an Orientation Session at 160 Rochester Dr. in south Louisville. The next Orientation Sessions will be held:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m.

College and Career Expo

The annual College and Career Expo will be held Oct. 12, 1-4 p.m. in the South Wing, Hall A, of the KY Fair and Expo Center. Event and parking are free.  

This event is for those who want to find out more about attending college for the first time or going back to finish a degree. Talk with reps from more than 250 colleges, universities and vocational schools. Meet with local job recruiters and advisors. More than $750,000 in scholarships are available. LIHEAP “Heating Help” Begins

Early Registration for Elderly and Disabled Residents Starts Oct. 6th

LIHEAP (the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) is a federally funded program to provide financial assistance to help low income residents pay utility bills. The Subsidy component of LIHEAP begins Nov. 3.
Pre-registration opportunities will begin Oct. 6th for residents on a fixed income, and who are elderly (age 60+) or disabled receiving social security, SSI, pension or Black Lung benefits.

Senior's Day Out – October 7th

Jack O' Lantern Spectacular 10/9-11/2

This popular event returns to Iroquois Park with 5,000 artistically locally carved pumpkins that light a trail the length of five football fields at the base of Iroquois Park.

6th Annual Brewfest – Oct. 17th 

The Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) will host the 6th Annual Louisville Brewfest Friday, October 17th from 4-10pm at Louisville Slugger Field (401 East Main St.) The event is presented by Boombozz Pizza and will feature independent local and regional beer, wine and bourbon, as well as food, a silent auction, and live music. The $5 admission includes a souvenir cup. Designated drivers get in free. Special $45 VIP tickets include a VIP tasting, a signed copy of the book Louisville Beer: Derby City History on Draft, larger pours in a special glass, and other perks. The "Brewseum" offers a self-directed journey through the history of craft beer in Louisville, supported by demos and 'how-to' areas. Food and beverage tickets will be sold for $1 each. Mayor’s Fall Hike & Outdoor Adventure – October 18

Jefferson Memorial Forest will host the Mayor’s Fall Hike & Outdoor Adventure with kids’ activities, hay rides, hikes, Alpine tower climbs, and canoe demos.

Free pumpkins and pumpkin decorating. Shack in the Back BBQ will provide breakfast and lunch items available for purchase with a portion of food sales go to benefit the Forest.  Meets at the Horine Reservation.  Event is FREE.

Shredding Event - Oct. 18th

Citizens can protect against identify theft with a free shredding event Saturday, October 18, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1032 Phillips Lane, across from the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center.

Residents can bring personal and confidential documents they no longer need to be shredded and then recycled. There is no limit on the amount of material residents may bring. Businesses will not be allowed to participate in this event.

Items that can be brought for shredding include documents, discs, hard drives, credit cards and other confidential materials. All paper materials will be shredded on site and recycled to make materials such as compost, tissues and toilet paper.

Trick or Treat Street - Oct. 23rd

The Fairdale Community Club will once again host this FREE event for kids age 12 and under at the Fairdale Playtorium 10616 W. Manslick Rd. Kids must be accompanied by an adult.
