Kentucky
Kingdom 2014 Season Ends Strong
Nearly 600,000
visitors and 117,000 season pass holders visited Ky Kingdom in 2014 — the strong
results that led the theme park's owners to expand the 2015 schedule and
accelerate investment in new rides for next year.
During its first season, 1,500 seasonal
employees were hired, mostly high school and college students and retirees who
received $8.15 hourly wages — higher for lifeguards and supervisors. The park's
year-round staff of 70 earns an average of about $55,000 to $60,000, he said.
The park will add five
attractions next year, including three rides mothballed by prior owners — the
T3 roller coaster (a refurbished T2); the Raging River Raft Ride; and the
Enterprise, a modernized Ferris wheel-shaped ride that flattens as it spins its
passengers in gondolas.
Also debuting next year are two rides — a 130-foot-tall SkyCatcher swing and Cyclos pendulum that rotates 360 degrees — that will cost about $1 million with installation.
