Sex Offender Registry

Recently representatives from LMPD’s Sex Crimes Unit made a presentation to the Metro Council members and staff. I wanted to share with you some information they provided. Currently there are 1,830 sex offenders living in the Metro area. Any offender who plead or are found guilty of the following must be placed on the Sex Offender Registry (SOR): a) any sex crime; b) if victim is under 18 and the suspect committed the following: kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, human trafficking, prostitution. To search the SOR please visit http://kspsor.state.ky.us/ and you may search by zip code or address up to 5 miles. The mapping system will give you the offender’s name, address and a hyperlink to a photo page with offense information. 


St. Joseph Children’s Home Annual Picnic

On August 8 – 9 bring your family and friends to St. Joe’s picnic to play games, eat, drink, have fun, or even enjoy J.D. Shelburne playing live on Friday night. All of the proceeds from the picnic support St. Joe’s kids. While you are at St. Joe’s, be sure to check out the home-cooked fried chicken dinners, the cake booth, handmade quilts, the $15,000 capital prize and car raffles.

2nd Annual CQ Jam for WaterStep

The 2nd Annual "CQ Jam for WaterStep" will be held on Saturday, August 9th beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Captain's Quarters Riverside Grille in Prospect. Headlining the WaterStep benefit show is Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie McCoy, a Grand Ole Opry veteran and accomplished studio musician who was also the music director for "Hee Haw" for 19 years. McCoy will be joined by Nashville recording artist Lindsey Willinger, and local bands, CMN and The Decades. The last act starts at 8:30 p.m.

The event will feature a waterfront stage for the local boating community. Tickets are $15 at the door, or $10 in advance if purchased at WaterStep's office and Captain's Quarters. A VIP upgrade is available for an additional $20 which includes premium seating, a meet-n-greet with Charlie McCoy and Lindsey Willinger, and food and beverage tickets. All proceeds from ticket sales and a portion of the evening's food and beverage sales will benefit WaterStep. To purchase tickets please click here.

Iraqi Students Visit Louisville

Recently the World Affairs Council of Kentucky and Southern Indiana (WAC) hosted a group of Iraqi youth in Louisville during this year’s Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP). WAC hosted a meeting on Thursday, July 31, at Saffron’s so the students could talk about their stay in Louisville and their hope for their countries future. Louisville Girls Leadership Employment Opportunity

The event will feature local bands, food and a silent auction. Tickets are now on sale. General admission is $10 and $40 for VIP. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. Saturday, August 9: American Printing House for the Blind will offer a Braille for the Sighted Workshop from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at 1839 Frankfort Avenue. Be inspired by the story of Louis Braille, who was twelve when he conceived the writing system that changed the lives of blind people all over the world. Learn the basics of Louis’s alphabet and practice writing on a braille slate and a braille writer. Advanced students will learn more about braille contractions and whole word signs, as well as how to write music and do math with braille. Participants may attend one session, or both!
