The Iroquois Amphitheater is
the place to be this weekend as a great tradition returns to Metro Louisville.
The 39th Kentucky Music Weekend will get underway with three days of
music and artists from all over the country on Friday July 25th, Saturday July
26th an Sunday July 27th.
“If you have never attended
this great music festival, you don’t know what you have been missing,” says
Councilman Dan Johnson (D-21). “Not only can you sit back and enjoy good music
but if you are an amateur musician and would like to play or learn how to play
better, then you can join in at the Jamming tent or under the trees and be part
of the great music.”
Johnson is again the major
sponsor of the event and has been for many years. The Louisville Dulcimer
Society also continues to be a sponsor along with Kentucky Music Week, Inc.,
the Iroquois Amphitheater and Metro Parks.

The 2014 Kentucky State Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer
Championship contests will also be hosted by the Kentucky Music
Weekend. This event will be held on Saturday beginning at 12:00
noon, with the first place winners receiving a new dulcimer or hammered
dulcimer, trophy, plus entry fees to the Walnut Valley National Contests in
Winfield, Kansas.
"Many may not know it, but in 2000, the Kentucky Music Weekend was
voted the “Premiere Folk Festival” of Kentucky by the Kentucky General
Assembly,” says Dan Johnson. “Come join us this weekend and you will agree this
event deserves and lives up to that distinction.”
It's the Fifth Year for Taste
of South Louisville! The year's culinary
event will be held on Saturday, August 23 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at Churchill
Downs Millionaires Row 4. The crowd is anticipated to exceed the 600 attendees
of last year, so be sure to get your tickets early.
The
view of the South Louisville skyline from the balconies of Millionaires Row 4
is indeed breath-taking and the perfect
venue for a feast featuring the best tastes and flavors of South Louisville.
Tickets prices are as follows:
- Advance (July 23-August 22 at
SLCM offices or by mail) - Adult ages 12 and up - $25 each. Children ages 5-11 - $5 each; ages 4 and under
are free.
- At the door, event night -
adults $25 each
This exciting event showcases
samplings of restaurants and food vendors from South Louisville and surrounding
areas. There will also be a large silent auction.
All
proceeds from this event go toward aiding the mission of South Louisville

Jefferson Memorial Forest
is seeking a responsible and reliable individual for seasonal employment
through the fall season. The position is responsible for second shift
janitorial duties, trash collection, and the locking selected parks.
The position
pays $8.50/hour and is from 1:30 to 10:00 pm Wednesday through
