4th of JULY

As you celebrate the 4th of July Holiday this year, whether you are enjoying backyard cookouts and fireworks at home, attending one of the the free events around Louisville or traveling out of town, please put safety first.

Leave Fireworks to the Professionals.

Don't think that fireworks are safe just because they're legal in your area.  The largest share of fireworks injuries are caused by Class C fireworks, the kind that are legal in many states. No common fireworks item shall be offered for sale if it has as part of its device any wings, fins, or other mechanism designed to cause the device to fly, or if it carries a cautionary label which includes in its description any of the following terms: "explosive," "emits flaming pellets", "flaming balls," "firecracker," "report," or "rocket;".

Know the Symptoms of heat-related illnesses.

During the summer a combination of high heat and high humidity can be very dangerous.  Everyone needs to be careful, especially those at risk during these weather conditions.

Symptoms include Rapid breathing;  Weakness or fainting;  More tired than usual;  Headache;  Confusion.

Initial Treatment should be 1. Call for help 2. Remove excess clothing from the person 3. Cool the person with lukewarm water, by sponging or bathing 4. Move the person to a cooler location. 5. If conscious, give the person sips of cool water, not ice cold water.  Always In an emergency
