Children and students can visit some of the region’s greatest cultural organizations for FREE this summer, thanks to the creation of the new Cultural Pass for Children that was suggested during the Vision Louisville initiative. The pass, a collaboration between Metro Government and cultural partners to address the importance of arts education in Louisville, admits one child/student (ages 0 through college) to attractions as diverse as the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft to the Kentucky Derby Museum to Yew Dell Gardens. If the child is under 16, one parent or guardian is also admitted.

Children and parents can pick up a pass (a punch card) from their local Louisville Free Public Library branch or Metro Parks Community Center starting June 9. The pass is good through August 13. Children who get their pass stamped by at least eight different institutions this summer will be eligible for a grand prize.

Food Scrap Drop-off for Residents

food waste

More food scrap recycling means less material is unnecessarily filling up our limited landfill space and more local compost for use in our community. You can do your part by bringing food scraps to the Hubbards Lane Recycling Center located at 595 N. Hubbards Lane (corner of Brownsboro Road and Hubbards Lane). This program is intended for individual residents only. Click here to view the flyer.

How do I recycle my food scraps?

• It’s easy! Just locate a food waste caddy (or any small container) in your kitchen to simplify the separation of your food waste. We recommend lining your container with a compostable bag (ASTM D6400 certified) which will make transport from your kitchen to the recycling center cleaner and easier. Please ensure all plastic wrap is removed from your food scraps.

What are the hours of the Hubbards Lane Recycling Center?

• Tuesday – Saturday, 10am – 5pm.

Will I be charged to drop-off food scraps?

• Drop-off is free for you! This service is part of a pilot project sponsored by Louisville Metro Government.

How much food scraps can I bring per visit?

• This program is intended for individual residents only. Food scrap drop-offs should be limited to five gallons or less.

Have more questions about recycling?

• Visit Louisville Metro’s recycling website at: http://www.louisvilleky.gov/SolidWaste/recycling/

FREE Bats Tickets Now Available

Bats

The program is once again split into two parts, with each part described below: COMMUNITY NIGHTS:

  • The Bats will host two community nights, providing tickets, hot dogs, and soft drinks to non-profit groups who would not be able to afford a Bats game under regular circumstances. These two nights will include 4,000 guests for each game – Tuesday, July 8 and Tuesday, July 22. Groups will contact the Bats office directly to sign up for the program and each group member will get a voucher for a ticket, hot dog, and soft drink. Examples include mentoring organizations, social service agencies, and many more. This program is not intended for individual constituent distribution.

METRO COUNCIL MONDAYS:

  • For this program, the Bats will host groups and organizations doing the good of the community that might not fit into the category above. This includes 12,000 total ticket vouchers – without hot dogs and drinks – distributed for use on ANY of these designated Monday nights: June 2, June 16, July 7, July 21 and August 4. Groups are able to choose their own date within these Monday nights. Examples include school fundraisers, charity auctions, and several others. This program is also not intended for individual constituent distribution.

To request tickets for either part of the program, organizations should contact Kate McGuire, Louisville Bats – kmcguire@batsbaseball.com. Please include your Metro Council District, organization name, contact name, mailing address, daytime phone number, and number of tickets requested. Email is preferred, but if email is not available, call Kate McGuire at 502-614-4535.
