Neighborhood teams with Councilman James to restore California Leisure Park

Last Saturday, on the city-wide Brightside Clean-Up day, leaders in the California neighborhood met Councilman James and his staff at California Leisure Park (at the corner of West Kentucky and Dixie Highway) to help restore this beautiful greenspace. During the day, these volunteers helped remove garbage and debris, cut weeds and brush, and trimmed and mulched the trees.

Special thanks to the California neighborhood residents for taking charge on this project as well as all the teams of volunteers that took part in Brightside Day throughout the 6th District and Metro Louisville. We'll keep everyone updated on future opportunities to keep our neighborhoods moving in the right direction.

District Six Spotlight: Robert Phillips

robertphillips
This week's District Six Spotlight is on Robert Phillips, a resident of the Puritan Apartments in Old Louisville.

Originally a native of Illinois, Robert has lived in Louisville since 2001. In that time, he has developed a love for this city, a place he describes as "city-slick, but country-cool". Robert's main focus in the neighborhood is on issues that affect seniors and the youth. He regularly communicates with local law enforcement and city officials to help keep the streets around Old Louisville as safe and hospitable as possible. In addition, Robert has been at the forefront of volunteers looking to get the word out about important projects and events that benefit the residents of District Six.

I would personally like to thank Robert for the passion he shows everyday in keeping his neighborhood a nice place to live and visit. I am very grateful you are here in District Six and I look forward to working with you more in the months to come!

Seniors in District Six have opportunity to visit City Hall, meet Mayor Fischer

This past Thursday, residents living at the Baptist Towers independent living center were invited to spend the evening at City Hall. Those who attended were given an exclusive tour of City Hall and the Metro Council before heading to the Mayor's office to spend some time with Mayor Fischer. Afterwards, they sat in on the Metro Council's bi-weekly meeting and were honored by Councilman James at the proceedings. Thanks to those individuals who made the trip to City Hall and participated in the activities and to Mayor Fischer for spending time with residents of District Six.
