Greetings,

This issue is dedicated to National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM).  DVAM evolved from the "Day of Unity" held in October 1981 and conceived by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. To support local domestic violence prevention efforts, we are highlighting  several events sponsored by the  Center for Women and Families in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness month:

  • October 14th - Health Cares About Intimate Partner Violence Day Medical providers play a crucial role in screening patients for intimate partner violence and connecting them with resources and support. This year, in recognition of Health Cares About IPV Day, The Center for Women and Families will be sending resources, offering mini-trainings, and encouraging OBGYN offices and health clinics to screen every patient for one week out of the month. If you know of a medical provider that may be interested in getting involved, please click here.
  • October 15th - Purple Thursday – We are encouraging Everybody #WearALittlePurple!
  • October 22nd Speak My Name – 12:00pm at Jefferson Square Park (6th and Jefferson St) - Join us as we gather together in remembrance of the 21 women who were murdered by intimate partners in Kentucky in the last year.

We encourage everyone to #BeThe1 by participating in these important activities!  For more information, click here.

Sincerely,

Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods Team
