The 2014 Public Library Statistics from the Annual Report have been posted, and here are some highlights:
• 57% - Percentage of Hoosiers that are library cardholders.
• 35,531,584 - Library visits (a 4% decrease from 2013).
• 77,179,390 – Items circulated by Indiana public libraries.
• 91% - Increase in eBook holdings in 2014. eBook usage also increased by 35%, with eBooks now comprising 14% of all circulations.
• 17% - Increase in Private and Public Foundation grants received.
• 26 – Number of bookmobiles remaining statewide (a 10% decrease from 2013).
• $14.52 - $20.98 – Average hourly salary range for a General Reference or Adult librarian.
• 1,434 - The number of librarians employed in Indiana public libraries (40 hour FTE, includes ALA MLS and other).

The Indiana State Library’s free Privacy in Library and Government Services Conference on May 27 is filling up. Don't miss your chance to register.
Attorney, author, and academic librarian Gretchen McCord will speak on privacy in library and government services. Topics for this all-day workshop include:
• USA Patriot Act, FERPA, COPPA, ECPA, and the Privacy Act • Federal and state laws, as well as constitutional considerations of privacy for public employees and employers • Privacy in online activities, including off-hours conduct and social media use • Rights to privacy in use of employer phone/computer • Drug testing in the workplace • Conditions for releasing information • Liability considerations
Check-in will begin at 8:30 AM in the Great Hall on the 2nd floor of the Indiana State Library (315 West Ohio Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202). The first session will begin at 9:00 AM and our day concludes at 4:00 PM. A light breakfast and afternoon snack will be served. Lunch is on your own.

The authors will speak about their new books starting at 5 p.m. with a book signing before and after the event. DPLAfest 2015, taking place on April 17-18, 2015 in Indianapolis, brings together hundreds to discuss everything from technology and development, to (e)books, law, genealogy, and education. DPLAfest 2015–set to coincide with DPLA’s 2nd birthday–will appeal to teachers and students, librarians, archivists, museum professionals, developers and technologists, publishers and authors, genealogists, and members of the public alike who are interested in an engaging mix of interactive workshops, hands-on activities, hackathons, discussions with community leaders and practitioners, and more.

The Indiana State Library (ISL) will be hosting its Interlibrary Loan Spring Workshop on Monday, April 20, 2015. The session, which will be held in the History Reference Room 211, is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Presentations will cover basic searching skills using OCLC FirstSearch and how to select the best record for interlibrary loan, as well as how to use the ISL Book Club list effectively. Come hear about some of the exciting new opportunities coming to IN-SHARE, InfoExpress and more.
This workshop is worth 2 LEUs or contact hours and is designed for staff that is new to ILL, as well as those who will not be able to attend the Discovery to Delivery VI Conference in May.
On the morning of April 20, the Indianapolis Public Library (IPL) will be hosting its Non-Profit Day at their Book sale between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the IPL Services Center located at 2450 N Meridian Street, in Indianapolis.
Once again, the ISL will be hosting a no cost shipping service for participants who subscribe to InfoExpress. Just bring the materials you select to the table and ISL staff will have them shipped to your library using InfoExpress.
Interested libraries are asked to pre-register so we can be ready to ship your materials.

On Thursday, May 7th, the Indiana State Library (ISL) will
be hosting its second biannual Government Information Day
(GID15). This event will feature six information sessions, including one with
keynote speaker, Davita Vance-Cooks, Director of the U.S. Government Publishing
Office.
This is an event for those interested
in obtaining government information via Indiana’s libraries and data centers.
State Data Center Coordinator Katharine
Springer of the ISL explains GID15 in the following statements.
“This is a great day to learn from
information professionals as well as talk one-on-one with federal, state, and
local agencies.
“GID15 is a day for networking. Young
professionals have the opportunity to interact with government professional as
well as their peers.
“We are opening up the line of
communication. While this day is geared towards librarians, it is a unique
opportunity for the public to come in and talk to these professionals as well.”
GID15 is a no cost event for anyone who
wishes to attend. Librarians can earn up to six Library Education Units (LEUs)
towards their certification.

Do not miss your chance to vote for this year’s Firefly Award winner. Votes are collected at Indiana’s Public Libraries and other voting locations. Libraries may collect their votes however they wish, but each child may only vote one time.
Other locations like schools, day-cares, and bookstores may collect votes as well, however efforts should be made to ensure that each child is voting only one time.
Voting ends at midnight on May 10, 2015.
On May 11, please tally the votes from your location for each of the 8 Indiana Early Literacy Firefly Award Nominees.

Voting tallies will be accepted from May 11th to May 20th. On May 22nd, the award will be announced.
