Deadline near for IAP grants

IAC new logo

Individual artists in selected performance disciplines of dance, literature, music, theatre, and folk arts related to these disciplines have until February 6, 2015 to complete their application for career development grants.

Artists with disabilities are encouraged to apply for projects related to the eligible disciplines either through the discipline directly or through the access category.

Application guidelines and the online grant application system are currently accessible on the Arts Commission website.

Poet Laureate a Yogi of Poetry?

Just when you thought you knew everything about Indiana's Poet Laureate George Kalamaras, along comes an online publication dedicated to the Blues that adds to his source of inspiration.

In an interview posted online by Blues GR, Kalamaris shared with writer Michalis Limnios his interest in the Blues and Jazz, Andre Breton, Charles Mingus and Yogananda.

Winners give back to libraries

IAA logo

Three libraries across the state are each receiving a $2,500 grant, thanks to the 2014 Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award winners.

The public library grants are in addition to the cash prizes awarded to the winners. Since the award's inception, more than $47,500 has been awarded to libraries from the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation, in conjunction with The Glick Fund.

The 2014 library grant recipients were Monroe County Public Library, selected by National Author winner Michael Shelden; the Jasper Public Library, selected by Regional Author winner Norbert Krapf; and the Muncie Public Library, selected by Emerging Author winner Kelsey Timmerman.

Nominations for the 2015 Indiana Authors Award will open February 2, 2015.

Call to Artists, 2015 Creative  Access Residency Awards
The 2015 Creative Access residency awards is a new opportunity for visual artists and writers living with spinal cord injuries to take part in one-month, fully funded residencies. Call for Entries, Art Slam 2015, San Francisco, CA
A slide exhibition of work by visual artists with disabilities will be held at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. No entry fee. For more information, click here. Entry deadline is January 26, 2015.

Request for Qualifications, Tribune Building Project, Wisconsin Rapids, WI
As part of the Tribune Building Project, Incourage Community Foundation is announcing an open competition for up to $300,000 in art installations. This opportunity, located in rural central Wisconsin, is supported by receipt of a Creative Placemaking grant from ArtPlace America. Incourage is seeking a wide variety of art for permanent installation, including by not limited to: landscape, graphic design, murals, 2-D and 3-D works connected to telling the community's story. Individuals, artists teams, and organizations from across the nation are eligible to apply. Click here to complete your submission of qualifications. Chilkoot Trail Artist Residency Deadline Near
Are you or someone you know an outdoor enthusiast and visual artist? If so, the Chilkoot Trail Artist Residency Program might be a great opportunity for you. This unique artist residency, in partnership with the National Park Service and Parks Canada, is a chance to hike historic Chilkoot Trail from Alaska into Canada and make art. Artists are encouraged to apply online by clicking here. The deadline for application is February 1, 2015.

Call for Entries, All About Art: Artists with Disabilities
The exhibit is sponsored by MossRehab and hosted at the Abington Art Center in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. Entry is open to artists with physical, cognitive, visual and hearing disabilities. Click here for guidelines and entry form. Deadline for entry is February 6, 2015.

Creative Renewal Arts Fellowships, Arts Council of Indianapolis, Indianapolis, IN
The ninth round of the Creative Renewal Fellowships are now available online. The Creative Renewal Fellowships award 30 recipients each $10,000. For more information, click here. Deadline for application is Friday, February 6, 2015.

Call for Entries, Recycled Art Show, Valparaiso, IN
Calling all creatives! The Recycling & Waste Reduction District of Porter County is seeking entries into the inaugural Re-Think Art Competition and Exhibition. Anyone aged 15 and older is invited to submit works of art made from 100% recycled materials to compete in a juried exhibition across northwest Indiana March 22 through April 16. Artists may enter up to three pieces in one of two categories: Youth, aged 15 - 18; and Adult, aged 19 and over. 17th Annual Art on the Streets, Colorado Springs, CO
Visual artists are invited to apply for inclusion in the 17th annual Art in the Streets juried sculpture exhibition.  Art on the Streets celebrated the power of art in public places, while turning the streets of downtown Colorado Springs into a yearlong outdoor sculpture gallery. The 2015-2016 exhibit will be installed June 2015 and the exhibit will run through May 2016. Applications are available online at https://www.callforentry.org. 2015 Endangered Species Youth Art Contest
This nationwide contest is organized by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Endangered Species Coalition, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and the International Child Art Foundation. The contest is open to students (K-12) with an opportunity to learn about endangered species and express their knowledge and support through artwork. All the basic information needed to participate can be found by clicking here. Deadline for submissions is March 1, 2015.

Artist Fellowships, Arts Council of Indianapolis
The Arts Council of Indianapolis, with financial support from Lilly Endowment, Inc., will award two $100,000, two-year fellowships to artists and / or artist teams to transform a community withing Marion County. Letters of intent to apply will be due March 2, 2015.

Gallery Review of Portfolios, Kremp Gallery, Jasper, IN
The Kremp Gallery will be reviewing portfolios for solo and group shows for 2016. This is an open call to artists working in all media. No fees. Professional, non-student artists only. Artwork must be presented in a professional manner. The artist is responsible for framing, shipping and / or delivery. Commission of 30%. Minimum of 10 images for solo show, more for group show, along with artist statement and curriculum vitae. Digital images should be submitted on CD or emailed. No online submissions. 2015 VSA International Young Soloists Competition
Calling all musicians with disabilities! Are you between the ages of 14 and 25? Are you interested in winning $2,500 and performing at the Kennedy Center? The 2015 VSA International Young Soloists Competition is now open and accepting entries. The competition is open to soloists and ensembles, domestic and international applicants, and musicians with disabilities of all genres. Winners receive $2,500, perform at the Kennedy Center, and participate in three days of exciting professional development activities, including master classes, round table discussions, and rehearsals. Permanent Art Collection Curator, Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN
Indiana State University's Cunningham Memorial Library seeks a Permanent Collection Curator. This professional position is responsible for the stewardship, documentation and research, development and care of ISU's permanent collection primarily comprised of prints, ceramics and paintings. The work includes providing access to the collection through on-campus venues, the maintenance of the catalog, safe storage of works, condition reporting and prioritization of conservation needs. The incumbent will ensure focused growth of the collection, through strategic acquisitions and will identify objects for deaccession that do not meet the standards of the collection.
