Have You Completed the Digital Inclusion Survey?

All public library directors are invited to complete the national 2014 Digital Inclusion Survey. This survey includes questions on public access technology, digital literacy and training, and library programs.

Data collected through this survey will be incorporated into interactive tools and maps pairing information related to digital library services with demographic data, helping libraries better understand their community needs. The survey results will also be used to inform policy- and decision-makers about the essential contributions of libraries in the areas of digital literacy, economic and workforce development, civic engagement, broadband, and public access to the Internet.

The survey deadline has been extended to December 12th. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please contact IPAC at ipac@umd.edu or (301)405-9445.

Rock Star Startup Winners

Rock Star Logo

The Indiana State Library would like to congratulate the following winners of the 2014 Indiana Rock Star Startup Ukulele Kits:

Anderson Public Library

Bristol Public Library

Fulton County Public Library

Indianapolis Public Library

Jay County Public Library

Jeffersonville Township Public Library

Ladoga-Clark Township Public Library

Melton Public Library

Peabody Public Library

Pendleton Community Public Library

Wabash Carnegie Public Library

Wanatah Public Library

Waterloo Grant Township Public Library

Westchester Public Library

The applicants were judged based on a variety of aspects including current early literacy efforts, whether or not libraries received a Rock Star Kit in the past, and identified populations who will benefit from the receipt of the kits. There were more libraries who applied for the ukuleles than ever before, making it difficult to narrow it down to the few winners the ISL could choose.

Thank you to all the libraries who applied and continue to make Every Child Ready to Read a success!

ISL Building Celebrates 80 Years

ISL_Building

On December 7, 2014, the Indiana State Library building will celebrate 80 years at its current location, 315 West Ohio Street in Indianapolis.

The original Indiana State Library was established in 1825 to provide library services to Indiana’s governmental officials and employees.

Since then our mission has changed to provide a wide range of collections for all residents of Indiana.

The current building, established in 1934, provides Hoosiers a genealogy collection, an Indiana collection with historic maps, histories, manuscripts, photographs, biographies, magazines and journals, Indiana state data center, government documents collection, as well as an extensive Talking Book and Braille Library.
