Refurbishments and Rededications
Thanks
to Carroll County Historian Mark Smith for spearheading efforts to restore the
New Purchase Boundary/Treaty of St. Mary's State Historical Marker, and to Byron Rider for his tireless work repainting.
Thanks also to Charles Fields of the Wilbur Wright Birthplace & Museum and his very large marker restoration crew. Mr. Fields organized the collaborative effort to restore all four of Rush County's Wendell Willkie markers in time for a rededication at Willkie Days on September 20. You can read more about the project from the Rushville Republican.
Students from Mays Elementary, Rushville Elementary East, and
Rushville Elementary West worked to repaint the markers, and the Rush
County Historical Society and County Commissioners provided supplies and
raised funds to replace the worn post of one of the markers (left).
