Bonus antlerless quotas reduced in 19 counties
Bonus antlerless county quotas have been set for the 2014 Indiana deer hunting season, with quotas being reduced in 19 counties and increased in four.
The quota assigned to a county represents the number of antlerless deer a hunter may take in that county above the basic bag limits. A license is needed for each deer taken.
Determining bonus antlerless quotas is based on a variety of factors - crop damage reports, deer-vehicle collisions, deer-vehicle collisions per billion miles driven, and landowner and hunter surveys that measure individual satisfaction level with deer numbers per county. Read more

Bird banders in action last year
Fish & Wildlife staff banding mourning doves, ducks and Canada geese
In July, our wildlife staff will be banding doves, ducks and Canada geese. Biologists will determine the age and sex of each bird. A small metal band is affixed to the leg of the bird. These bands do not injure or impair the birds and will remain on for life. Hunters will occasionally harvest these banded birds and relay the information back to the bird banding lab through the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Important data about migration patterns, longevity and population dispersal is determined by these band recoveries.
