State Historic Records Advisory Board to Host Archives Workshop

INDIANAPOLIS (May 20, 2014) – Volunteers and professionals committed to preserving Indiana's documentary heritage are invited to an archives and records workshop at the Indiana State Archives on June 26, 2014. The Indiana State Historic Records Advisory Board (SHRAB), in conjunction with the Indiana Commission on Public Records (ICPR), is hosting this free, all-day event, which will provide valuable information for those who work with and care for historical records. The workshop will focus on public records and access, finding historical records, the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial, as well as include a hands-on session showing attendees how to create simple protective enclosures for their documents.
The workshop includes a complementary lunch (courtesy of the SHRAB), and certified public library professionals in attendance can receive Library Education Units. The workshop is limited to 20 participants so register today at the SHRAB.IN.gov Conference page.

• 9:30-9:50 AM – Welcome
• 10:00-11:30 – Concurrent Sessions
  • Simple Protective Enclosures: Since tape and lamination are so evil, students will learn to encapsulate a document, using polyester film (Melinex), that needs extra support or protection. The film allows the document to be viewed and photocopied without harming the original. Four-flap enclosures, or phase boxes, are a simple way to contain damaged books or multiple thin volumes.     • 10:00-10:45 – Public Records & Access: This practical discussion will cover the maintenance and management of your records, how to utilize records retention schedules to create a streamlined disposition process and avoid ever filling that storeroom with records boxes again! About The State Historic Records Advisory Board
The State Historic Records Advisory Board was established in February of 2006 by Governor Mitch Daniels and re-authorized by Governor Mike Pence upon taking office. It is charged with being the central advisory body for historical records planning and preservation in Indiana. The SHRAB, which operates using a matching grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, a division of the National Archives, works with the Indiana Commission on Public Records and repositories throughout the state to accomplish its task.
