Artists Encouraged to Apply for IAP grants

Hoosier artists interested in applying for career development grants in selected disciplines have until February 7, 2014 to submit applications online for the IAC's Individual Artist Program (IAP). Eligible projects will only be considered in the areas of visual arts, photography, design, media, crafts and folk arts related to these traditional disciplines. Artists with disabilities are also encouraged to apply for projects related to these eligible disciplines, either through the discipline directly or through the Access category. Individual artists living and working in Indiana may apply for up to $2,000 from the IAP grant, which requires no matching funds. Indiana's Mariachi Zelaya to Perform in West Lafayette

On Wednesday, November 13, from 8 - 9 p.m., Indiana's statewide folklife program will join with West Lafayette Public Library to host a free concert with Mariachi Zeleya, a group that embraces the rich and versatile musical tradition of mariachi to create music that resonates with diverse audiences across the state. Sponsored by Indiana University's Traditional Arts Indiana and funded through a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the concert will showcase the talents of this popular Indiana mariachi band. Born in Zelaya, Nicaragua, the band's founder Pedro Toledo played salsa, merengue, and cumbia before turning his attention to mariachi. In 1998, he formed Mariachi Zelaya in Atlanta, Georgia, but soon relocated to Indianapolis, which has served as the band's home base. Deadline Approaching for Region 4 Artists to Apply for 2015 Exhibitions

The Tippecanoe Arts Federation reminds all Region 4 artists that the deadline to submit application for 2015 exhibitions at the Wells Cultural Center is 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2013. All artists, art groups, art organizations, and schools from Region 4 are eligible to submit an application and electronic portfolio for panel review. Region 4 consists of Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Fountain, Howard, Jasper, Montgomery, Newton, Pulaski, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Warren, and White counties. Columbus Area Artist Helps Kids Create Mural Project

When kidscommons Children's Museum opened in downtown Columbus, Indiana in October 2005, visitors found exciting exhibits in a space five times larger than the museum's original facility. They also discovered a vibrant, safe setting full of hands-on learning and fun. One such hands-on learning opportunity recently brought together the talents of a local artist with kids ready to learn about creating a mural. Andy J. Miller, a Columbus area artist, led a two-day artist's workshop for children ages 7-12 at the kidscommons to share his creative process and the characters and narratives that appear in his work. Each of the 10 students taking part in the workshop created their own original mural characters. At the end of the workshop, Miller then incorporated the 10 works into his final mural (above left), which is on display at the kidscommons. Known for art and design rooted in the whimsical, Miller's projects span the globe. He is well-known for his Indie Rock Coloring Book and the NOD drawing project, as well as a collaborator of the Color Me Exhibition with Andrew Neyer. The mural project was made possible, in part, by the Columbus Museum of Art & Design, the Columbus Area Arts Council, the Indiana Arts Commission, and the National Endowment for the Arts. The kidscommons Museum is located at 309 Washington Street in downtown Columbus. All exhibits are accessible by way of ramps and an elevator.

Artist Residency, Contemporary Artists Center, Troy, NY
The Contemporary Artists Center has recently opened its newest residency program on the campus of Woodside National Historic Register Site in Troy, NY. Two neo-gothic stone church buildings now house the artist program and welcome artists from all over the U.S. and abroad. The CAC is located 2.5 hours north of New York City, and is currently accepting applications for the Winter 2013 season. CAC focuses on emerging and early career artists and accepts applicants who offer quality in their art and encourages diversity of style, medium (2-D, 3-D) and concepts. The residency program offers the artists the time and support to create new work and fosters an environment that encourages creativity, dialogue and experimentation. Fellowships are available. The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture's Public Art Program seeks an artist to join the design team responsible for the design of a new transit center. The selected artist will be asked to consider unique ways to provide functional integrated elements for passengers and to advise the team on other potential areas for artistic treatment. Art opportunities include, but are not limited to: vertical shade features, shelters and seating, walkways, and landscape enhancements. The estimated budget is $250,000, inclusive of all design and construction, travel, insurance, taxes, and incidentals. Deadline to apply is November 22, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. (Arizona time). Dacia Gallery invites new and established artists to submit artwork of an opportunity to participate in their annual Holiday Group Exhibition this December. The theme of the exhibition is Black & White. The gallery is open to a diverse body of artwork in all mediums and styles, so anything goes as long as the artwork is Black & White. Call for Artists/Artisans, "Time Travel is Messy: Vonnegut in the Aerodrome," Indianapolis, IN
Circle City Aerodrome invites you to submit your entries for their second annual art exhibit "Time Travel is Messy: Vonnegut in the Aerodrome" which will feature fine craft, multimedia and fine art. Kurt Vonnegut was an Indianapolis native and author of Slaughterhouse Five, a novel about WWII and time travel experiences of a soldier named Billy Pilgrim. The show will run February 7 - 28, 2014 at the New Meadery in Fountain Square. The show will be juried. Jurors will be asked to select the best examples across a wide variety of fin craft and art disciplines. Artists may submit up to three items. Call for Artists, Seattle Central Seawall, Seattle, WA
The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, in collaboration with Seattle Department of Transportation, seeks an artist or artist team to create a major integrated artwork on the public pier of the Seattle Central Waterfront. The selected artist or artist team will collaborate with the project design team to create an original artwork or series of artworks on Union Street Pier or Pier 62/63. The call is one of a series of calls for permanent and temporary artworks along the redeveloped Seattle waterfront. The artist will join the Waterfront Seattle design team in February 2014 and will develop a conceptual direction for the artwork over the first half of 2014. Upon acceptance of the concept design, the artist will be contracted for design development, engineering, fabrication and installation of the artwork. This call is open to all professional artists working in the U.S. and internationally. The total project budget is estimated to be $1 million all-inclusive of design, fabrication, delivery, installation, travel, fees, taxes, and other project-related costs. Click here to apply online.
