The Indiana State Library is happy to report that the cost of Info Express will remain the same in 2015-16. Starting in June, libraries will be able to renew their Info Express memberships via the www.infoexpress.in.gov website that now features the ability to print your own invoice and pay with a credit card. This online payment system should make it easier than ever for libraries to participate in the Info Express program.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Michael Hicks at (317) 232-3699 or email dhicks@library.in.gov.
Adams Public Library System Director Kelly A. Ehinger made the following statement:
It is with sadness that I report that Rose Bryan passed away yesterday. Rose worked in libraries since 1972, first as a library aide at the South Adams Schools and then as Geneva Librarian since 1994.
Rose was known by many of you through her commitment to and work within SAMS, ILF, and on statewide committees. She worked tirelessly in Geneva and the library world improving lives and positively impacting her own community and the larger library community. She had been involved with Geneva Proud, the Geneva Chamber, Indiana Library Federation, Adams County Literacy Council, Adams County Genealogical Society, and many other organizations over the years. She will be missed.
Arrangements are made at the Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva. Visitation is on Sunday, April 26 from 1:00 until 5:00 in Geneva and on Monday at 9:00-10:00 at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Portland with the funeral following. Preferred memorials are to the Adams County Community Foundation APLS Geneva Book Fund, 102 N 2nd Street, Decatur IN 46733. [www.adamscountyfoundation.org] A complete obituary can be found here.
As part of the month-long celebration of “The Big Read,” during which Indianapolis residents are encouraged to read The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears by Ethiopian-American author Dinaw Mengestu, the author will visit Indianapolis to discuss the book’s theme and his own immigrant experience on Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair Street.
The Indianapolis Public Library is presenting numerous programs showcasing Ethiopian culture as well as community book discussions on The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears, Mengestu’s first novel which explores the differences between the expectations of American life and its reality. The book focuses on the life of an Ethiopian immigrant who, after fleeing his country’s resolution, faces an inner crisis of displacement and the challenges of living between two worlds. It’s a theme that resonates with the experiences of many new citizens, including Mengestu.
At the Central Library program, the author will share those experiences and give insight into the process of writing his novel. Book signings will follow.
“The Big Read” is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest and is made possible with additional support from The Library Fund, a Fund of The Indianapolis Foundation, Arts Midwest, The International Center, Christel DeHaan Family Foundation, Felege Hiywot Center, Indiana Writer Center, the Mayor's Office of International and Cultural Affairs and Friends of the Library through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.

A committee of librarians and trustees met in the summer of 2014 to review and revise public library standards. The Indiana Library and Historical Board approved moving forward with the codification process at their December 2014 meeting.
You may view the new standards by visiting http://www.in.gov/library/5412.htm. Once on the site, click on “Changes to Public Library Standards” to see a summary of the changes made.
Next steps include a public hearing and approval from the Attorney General and Governor. It is anticipated that the revised standards will take effect January 1, 2016.
For any comments or concerns, please contact Jacob Speer at JSpeer@library.in.gov.
To commemorate National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, a special memorial was unveiled at Central Library downtown on April 21. The Homicide Memorial Exhibit was comprised of 135 pairs of shoes to memorialize the 135 victims of criminal homicide in Indianapolis in 2014, which was accompanied by signage, resources and opportunities for individuals to express their support for victims. Stephanie Rader is the mother of Joseph David McSweeney, a victim of a homicide in Indianapolis on March 26, 2011. She discussed the importance of the memorial which can lead to greater dialogue on issue of violent crime in our community.

The Alzheimer's & Related Dementias Interest Group (IGARD) is in the process of creating standards for library service directly to persons diagnosed with dementia. As part of the due diligence process, we are seeking input from libraries across the country so that we can document already existing best practices.
If your library is currently offering, or has offered in the past, services and/or programming directly to members of your community diagnosed with dementia, please self-identify by completing this brief survey.
IGARD is an Interest Group of the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA), which is a division of the American Library Association (ALA).
Please forward this message to the appropriate person at your library. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

On Thursday, May 7th, the Indiana State Library (ISL) will
be hosting its second biannual Government Information Day
(GID15). This event will feature six information sessions, including one with
keynote speaker, Davita Vance-Cooks, Director of the U.S. Government Publishing

information professionals as well as talk one-on-one with federal, state, and
local agencies.
“GID15 is a day for networking. Young
professionals have the opportunity to interact with government professional as
well as their peers.
“We are opening up the line of
communication. While this day is geared towards librarians, it is a unique
