The Indiana State Library is excited to invite you to a
great webinar opportunity with the Indiana Department of Education.
Curious about the Summer Food Service Program? Look no further! I
know many of you will be interested in this topic since it covers so many
Indiana communities.
Libraries and Summer Meals: Is there a connection?
The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), Office of School
and Community Nutrition is inviting all libraries in Indiana to join in an
informational session to learn about the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and
its many benefits in a local community. This educational webinar will touch on
the ways the USDA Summer Food Service Program, administered by the IDOE and
sponsored by a local agency such as a school corporation, can make a difference
in the lives of Hoosier children. You will learn about the important role a
local library can play in helping our children and youth have access to free
nutritious meals while visiting your library. Becoming a program partner
will provide a great opportunity to increase the participation in your
library’s summer programming. Join us as we discuss how you can make a
difference!
Webinar Date: March 23, 2016 Webinar Time: 2:00-3:00 EST To register for the webinar click here.
This is part of our new Ask the Experts series
of webinars. You can see the line-up for the year by clicking here.
In
celebration of the state’s bicentennial, The Genealogy Center invites Hoosiers
across the entire state of Indiana to contribute images of “life lived in the
small places” as that is what makes, and has made, Indiana great. We are
interested in old and new images of daily life and the people of Indiana that
showcase Hoosier life. These can include children at play, people at work,
people hanging out, sporting events, homes and buildings, and so much more.
The
Genealogy Center will collect “Who’s a Hoosier?” images through December 11,
2016 in honor of Indiana’s 200 years of statehood. Contribute often as you
celebrate family, community, and special events throughout the year.
To
show your Hoosier pride, please contribute pictures along with descriptions of
the images, detailing who and what makes Indiana great!

The American Library Association
(ALA) Public Programs Office invites libraries to apply for the Great Stories
Club, a reading and discussion program for at-risk teens featuring books under
the theme “The Art of Change: Creation, Growth and Transformation.” The project
is supported with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
Working with small groups of six to
10 teens, grantees will host reading and discussion events for each of three
selected book titles. The titles — selected in consultation with librarian
advisors and humanities scholars — are chosen to resonate with reluctant
readers struggling with complex issues like incarceration, violence and
poverty.
Eligible libraries are located within
or working in partnership with organizations that serve at-risk youth, such as
alternative high schools, juvenile justice organizations, homeless shelters,
foster care agencies, teen parenting programs, residential treatment facilities
and other nonprofit and community agencies. Up to 75 grants will be awarded.
Applications are due April 15; to view the full article click here.
Due to an extreme interest we have decided to extend the due date until March 18th
