Did you know that kids need nature? They do! Research shows that children who spend time outside are more creative and are better problem solvers. They're healthier, more physically fit, more confident, better test takers, and less stressed!
In October, The Nature Conservancy’s Mary McConnell spoke at the TEDx Indianapolis event. TEDx Indianapolis celebrates “extraordinary people generating Big Ideas,” and this talk was no exception. Mary presented on the Children of Indiana Nature Park, a project which will launch in 2016 that is designed to reconnect kids with nature and foster the next generation of conservation leaders. Enjoy the amazing sights and sounds in this special announcement of the Children of Indiana Nature Park!
The Nature Conservancy is inviting schools and libraries to help connect youth to nature by hosting library events and activities that focus on nature in Indiana. The Conservancy is developing a web platform (available summer 2016) that will enable libraries and schools to provide each participating K-12 student with an honorary deed to the Children of Indiana Nature Park. More information will be provided in upcoming newsletters, and as the June 2016 park opening draws nearer. In the meantime, contact Melissa Moran at Melissa.Moran@tnc.org or (317) 829-3919 for more information about how your organization can participate.

At its December 4, 2015 meeting, the Indiana Library and
Historical Board voted to keep the Public
Library Access Card (PLAC) fee at $65 for 2016.
The PLAC
statewide library card program was enacted by the Indiana General Assembly in
1993 (Indiana Code 4-23-7.1-5.1) to allow individuals to purchase a card
which permits them to borrow materials directly from any public library in
Indiana.
Any individual holding a valid Indiana public library card may purchase a PLAC
card. The cost of the PLAC card is $65.00 and each card is valid for 12 months
from the date of issue. The revenue from the sale of these cards is distributed
back to libraries on the basis of net loans.
On December 4, 2015 the Indiana Library & Historical Board (ILHB) voted
unanimously to keep the cost of the PLAC at $65 for the second year.
The Indiana State Library is now accepting applications for 2016 LSTA Technology and Digitization grants. All public, academic, school, institutional or special libraries in the state are welcome to apply for these grants.
• The 2016 grant guidelines and application materials are now available here.
• Applications must be submitted by 4:00 PM EST on Friday, March 11th, 2016. One copy must be emailed to the LSTA Consultant and another must be mailed and postmarked by that date.
• Return grantees: Please make note of the new reporting forms for 2016 Grantees. IMLS is requesting more specific financial and activity information and we have modified our report forms to capture this information.
