Demonstration of WisCat installation of SRCS

On January 5, 2016 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm there will be a free webinar on WisCat.

WisCat is the Wisconsin state-wide installation of the Auto-Graphic ShareIt software, which will power Indiana’s SRCS system.

This session is free and open to anyone in the library community, however only a limited number of online seats are available, so preregistration is required.

The webinar will be recorded and the link will be posted to http://in.gov/library/SRCS.htm following the session.

Click here to register for the event.

Early Literacy Materials from the Indiana Dept of Education

In the next few weeks, all public libraries in Indiana will receive a “bundle” (box) of materials from The National Center for Families Learning and Hoosier Family of Readers, Superintendent Glenda Ritz’s literacy initiative. This is the third year of her mission:  to build a culture of readers in Indiana by supporting schools and public libraries in their mission to get books in the hands of students and their families.  We encourage you to schedule a family engagement event at your library soon to promote her mission. The bundle will contain all the materials you will need to host a family engagement event in your library. Included will be an event guide to help you plan the event, as well as 30 copies each of a parent guide, a poster for each family to help them record their reading, a bookmark for each family that provides conversation starters for parents when reading with their child, and a suggested booklist to encourage reading in a variety of topics and genres.  Superintendent Ritz would like to attend your event as her schedule permits. In the bundle, you will find a letter from her with instructions on how to contact her if you would like to invite her to your event.  Contact Jill Lyday, Secondary Literacy Specialist/Hoosier Family of Readers Initiative/Indiana Department of Education at jlyday@doe.in.gov for further information or questions.

New report looks to future of libraries building digitally inclusive communities

A new report explores the ways in which libraries throughout the nation are leading the way in building digitally inclusive communities that support individual opportunity and community progress. Titled After Access: Libraries and Digital Empowerment, the paper shares research, resources and expert conversations gathered from a summit of digital inclusion advocates hosted by the American Library Association (ALA) Office for Information Technology Policy (OITP).

The summer convening explored how library professionals and their collaborators can best meet the changing digital information and literacy needs of their communities.  The event was co-sponsored by the ALA Office for Research and Statistics and the University of Maryland Information Policy & Access Center as part of its Digital Inclusion Survey research, funded by the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
