bicentennial promo

The Indiana Arts Commission announced today the launch of two grant programs associated with the celebration of the state's Bicentennial. The announcement was made during a special ceremony at the Brown County State Park Nature Center, Nashville, Indiana. The featured speaker for the announcement was Bicentennial Ambassador and First Lady Karen Pence.

"It is my privilege to be able to participate in the announcement of two exciting Bicentennial Legacy Projects involving the arts," stated First Lady Karen Pence. "I am especially pleased to be part of this presentation in beautiful Brown County State Park which ties together the state's bicentennial, the centennial of the state park system, and the 50th anniversary of the Indiana Arts Commission."

Arts in the Parks is a partnership between the Indiana Arts Commission and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) enabling the creation of arts activities for the public to enjoy at parks and forests across the state.

Indiana Masterpiece will introduce Hoosiers to the best of Indiana's cultural and artistic legacy through special productions, commissions, exhibitions, performances, and / or artistic celebrations. Projects will showcase the state's arts history and prominent figures in order to highlight Indiana's rich cultural heritage and those who created it.

Guidelines and important deadlines for both grant programs are currently available on the Arts Commission website. Guidelines for Arts in the Parks can be found at http://www.in.gov/arts/2866.htm; and guidelines for the Indiana Masterpiece program are located at http://www.in.gov/arts/2867.htm.

Former IAP recipient's film to be screened at Indy Film Fest

dan rybicky

Dan Rybicky is an award-winning filmmaker and tenured professor currently living in Gary, Indiana. He has twice received a Individual Artist Program grant from the IAC (2010 and 2012) for production of a documentary that has taken eight years to complete. Now the film is about to have its debut Indiana screenings.

Almost There is about how one funny and resilient artist struggles to leave his life long home in East Chicago, Indiana and make the transition to a senior home and a new way of life.

In following this unique character's journey for eight years, the audience is prompted to question their responsibilities and boundaries with their neighbors as well as their feelings about mental illness, aging in America, and the redemptive power of art.

"We hope our story will resonate with Indiana audiences as much as it has with the many festival audiences we've been sharing it with around the world since premiering in New York in 2014," Rybicky said.

The film's Indiana debut screenings will be July 18 and July 22 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art's Toby Theater as part of Indy Film Fest. For tickets and more information about the film's screenings, click here.

The record-breaking artist

Art has always come naturally to Walter Lobyn Hamilton, who has been creating works of art since he was a young boy.

Hamilton took three classes at Herron School of Art and Design after high school, but that's as far as his "formal" training goes. He never thought he'd make a living as a full-time artist.

The universe, however, had other plans. Click here for the full story. (source: skybluewindow.org)
