Public Safety Forum Set For 4-24-15

Wordle4forum

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. To address increases in the sexual exploitation of youth, the Lake County Sheriff's Office is hosting a public safety forum entitled Technology and Pornography - Keeping Youth Safe on Friday April 24, 2015 at the CLC's C-005 Auditorium in Grayslake from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

Guest speakers include Dr. Mary Anne Layden, Director of Education for the Center of Cognitive Therapy at the University of Pennsylvania, Ms. Liz Yore, former special counsel for Harpo Studios and former general counsel at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and Detective Chris Covelli, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Cyber-crimes task force.

The forum is structured to help parents and professionals working with kids understand the increasing risks in cyberspace. The forum is free to the public. I encourage you to attend, get the facts, learn about the new laws and let's work toward keeping our kids safe. You can register by clicking the image above or visit lakecountyil.gov/sheriff.

I look forward to seeing you on the 24th and please remember to drive safely. Warm weather brings kids, bikes, motorcycles and construction workers to the roadways.

Sincerely,

Sheriff Mark C. Curran, Jr.

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Illinois passed laws banning the use of electronic devices while driving and Lake County deputies will be conducting patrols to make sure these law are obeyed. Unless a device is hands-free, it can not be used while driving. You may click the image for a terrific video to share with young drivers.
