(Lake County, IL March 07, 2016) The Lake County State’s Attorney Michael G. Nerheim is pleased to announce that his office was recently as awarded $5,000.00 for its 2016 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) event. Every April, the Office for Victims of Crime helps lead communities throughout the country in an annual observance of the rights afforded to victims of crime and strides that have been made historically to improve the system’s response to victims. This year’s observance is  April 10th–16th, 2016. The theme for this year —Serving Victims. Building Trust. Restoring Hope.— underscores the importance of early intervention and victim services in establishing trust with victims, which in turn begins to restore their hope for healing and recovery.

The award received by the office was made available by Community Awareness Project (CAP) funding. The State’s Attorney’s Office project was selected after careful consideration of 221 applications. The National Association of VOCA Assistance Administrators (NAVAA) recommended the proposal’s acceptance based on the efforts to raise public awareness of crime victims’ rights as well as the services available to victims of crime in Lake County. Final approval of the proposal was made by the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC). This is the second year that the State’s Attorney’s Office has received this funding.

Plans are underway for an event open to the entire Lake County community.  Event information will be posted on the office’s website, www.lcsao.org, and our Twitter page @saolakecountyil.
