New Voter’s Certificate of Registration

In December, every Lake County registered voter was mailed a new Voter's Certificate of Registration card. The card, often referred to as a "voter ID card," includes voter’s name and address, districts serving the address, and Election Day voting site. If the card is inaccurate or you have questions, please call the Voter Services Department at 847.377.2410.

Make sure you are ready!

The March 15, 2016 General Primary is not far away. A person must be registered before receiving a ballot. Visit LakeVoterPower.info to verify your voter registration record is current. You can also call our Voter Services Department at 847.377.2410 for verification.

Registering to vote

Deputy registrars, commissioned by the Clerk’s office, are available throughout the county until February 16 to take a first-time registration or update an existing record. Review our brochure, Official Places of Voter Registration, to find a registrar that is convenient.

  • Applicants must be a United States citizen, 18 years of age by the date of the next election and, meet a 30 day residency requirement. 17 year olds may vote in this year’s primary if 18th birthday is before November 8, 2016.
  • Two forms of valid identification are needed. At least one of the forms must show current name and address.
  • Voter registration is also available at the Lake County Clerk's office, online at LakeCountyClerk.info, or Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles when updating a driver’s license.

For more voter registration information visit the Clerk’s web site, contact the Voter Services department at VoterRegistration@lakecountyil.gov or call 847.377.2410.

Delayed Ballot Printing

Vote 2016 by mail, early or Election Day

The Illinois State Board of Elections is still reviewing objections against several U.S. presidential candidates. Only after these objections have been resolved can the state send a final certified candidate list to all Illinois election authorities. As a result, in-person early voting at the Clerk’s office and voting by mail throughout Illinois will be delayed.

By state law, in-person early voting at the Clerk’s office and voting by mail should begin February 4. But without state certification of the candidates, ballots cannot be printed.

It is predicted that ballots will be printed and available to Lake County voters by February 17. If ballots become ready earlier than anticipated, such notice will be distributed through the media, local governmental offices, social media, and our website. Those wishing to vote early at the Clerk’s office before ballots are printed are encouraged to submit an application for a Vote by Mail ballot.
