Lake County Deputy County Administrator Wins 
National Award for Excellence in Leadership

The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) will recognize Amy McEwan, Lake County Deputy County Administrator, with its Assistant Excellence in Leadership Award for her significant contributions as a professional public manager. The award will be presented to Amy in September at the ICMA Annual Conference in Seattle.   Amy has worked for Lake County government for ten years, and has been in local government for more than 20 years. She is known for her strong leadership, persistence, and effective solution building.  At Lake County, she leads a wide variety of projects including efficiency studies in the justice system, courthouse expansion, strategic planning, emergency management, radio replacement project, 911 consolidation study, sustainability, information technology, and team building. She is a “go-to” person for many in the organization, as well as those outside the organization.

“Solution building requires collaboration, creativity, flexibility and open-mindedness. I honor the knowledge in the room by bringing talented people together and watch as each member of the team contributes ideas that form it into connections of ideas, and then concepts, and ultimately develop into plans that provide value to each stakeholder and group. This is the key to solution building and achieving success, and this is what I love about my job,” Amy said.

ICMA's Local Government Excellence Awards celebrate the value of professional management and honors creative contributions to professional local government leadership. The award highlights public awareness of the value of professional management and its impact to the quality of life in our communities. 

Professional local government managers include city, town, and county managers who are appointed by elected officials to oversee their government’s day-to-day operations and build better communities.
