EVANSTON, ILLINOIS - The City of Evanston congratulates Fire Chief Greg Klaiber on
30 years of outstanding service to the Evanston community.
A lifelong Evanston resident, Klaiber joined the Evanston
Fire Department as a firefighter in March of 1985. Since then, he has served as
Paramedic Preceptor, Hydrant Testing Program Coordinator, Fire Captain/Paramedic,
Division Chief of EMS and Special Rescue Teams, and Deputy Fire Chief. He was appointed Fire Chief in 2010.
“Congratulations to Chief Klaiber on 30 years of dedicated
service to the Evanston Fire Department and the entire Evanston community,”
City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz said. “Under his direction, the department has
continued to provide excellent, professional fire suppression and emergency medical
services, while at the same time expanding educational programs and outreach to
the Evanston community.”
In addition to his service at the Fire Department, Klaiber has volunteered in many capacities throughout Evanston. He currently serves as Trustee for the Evanston 4th of
July Association. In the past, he has served as Board Member and Finance
Committee Chairman for the Evanston/Skokie School District 65 Board of
Education; Commissioner of Travel Baseball for the Evanston Baseball and
Softball Association; Board Member for the Frank Govern Memorial Golf Course (now Canal Shores); and as a volunteer tutor at Kingsley Elementary School.
Klaiber holds a Master of Science in Cardiac Rehabilitation/Exercise
Physiology from Northeastern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Science in
Exercise Physiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is
a 1978 graduate of Evanston Township High School (ETHS).
