Dear Friends,

Please join me for our 2nd Ward meeting tonight, Thursday, October 9 at 7 p.m. at the J.E.H. Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Ave. An agenda for the meeting is below. Evanston Police Chief Richard Eddington will be on hand to discuss recent crime activity in Evanston. In addition, Youth and Young Adult Program Manager Kevin Brown will join us to talk about ongoing strategies to reach out and provide opportunities for Evanston youth.

Please share this information! My goal is to keep all neighbors in our ward informed about upcoming events and opportunities they can benefit from. Participate in the ETHS Black Male Mentoring Program

ETHS logo

The ETHS Black Male Mentoring Program seeks to connect black male students with positive adult male figures. Students and mentors will meet 3 to 5 times during the school year for two hours per session during school hours. Students and adults will be paired primarily according to career interest and background. All mentors must be willing to do the following:

  • Commit to attending at least three 2-hour mentee meetings per school year
  • Lead meetings with a small group of mentees, not to exceed four students
  • Attend one of three mandatory volunteer training dates in October
  • Complete a fingerprint background check
  • Willingness to help and learn with black male students
  • Work collaboratively with other mentoring groups

Firewood Sales Begin Saturday, November 8

The City of Evanston’s annual firewood sale starts Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 2310 Oakton St. (between the Recycling Center and the Evanston Animal Shelter). Hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays through the end of February, or until supplies are exhausted. Prices and other information >>>
