Starlight Concert and Food Trucks at Harbert Park Tonight

Take advantage of beautiful summer weather and enjoy a Starlight Concert tonight, Tuesday, July 29, at Harbert Park, located at Dempster St. and McDaniel Ave. Performers from Uncle Butchie's Live House will perform from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Chicago Cupcake and Grill Chasers food trucks will be on site serving up delicious cuisine beginning at 6 p.m. (Rain location: Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center.) Transform a Vacant Property Into a Home Saturday, August 2

Join Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH) to help transform a blighted and vacant property at 1800 Greenleaf Ave. into a beautiful home for a local family. CPAH is looking for 45 volunteers to lend a hand on Saturday, August 2, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Volunteers of any skill level ages 10 and older are welcome. Lunch and t-shirts will be provided.

Celebrate National Night Out and enjoy the summer's first Starlight Movie, E.T., at Penny Park on Tuesday, August 5, beginning at approximately 8 p.m. More >>>

Prior to the movie, at 7 p.m., community members are invited to gather at Penny Park for a Neighborhood Meet & Greet as part of National Night Out. The National Night Out campaign began in 1984 as an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, support police-community partnerships, spark neighborhood camaraderie, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. See "The Music Man" Wednesday, August 6 at Harbert Park

On Wednesday, August 6, at approximately 8 p.m., visit Harbert Park for a showing of The Music Man. The classic 1962 musical film about a traveling salesman masquerading as a band instructor is one the whole family can enjoy! 

The showing is part of Evanston's Starlight Movies in the Park Series. More >>>


Team Evanston Soccer Wins National Championship!

Congratulations to the Team Evanston soccer club on winning the Under-14 Boys US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup on July 13! Team Evanston defeated eastern Pennsylvania's Montgomery Arsenal in penalty kicks after regulation and overtime ended in a 0-0 tie.

In addition to this big win, Team Evanston also took home the Illinois Presidents Cup and Midwest Presidents Cup earlier this summer. Great job! More >>>


Help Kickstart Curt's Café South!

Curts Cafe

The Heartwood Center is collaborating with Curt's Café to bring its gorgeous café and inspirational concept into the former Perla Café space, located near Dempster St. and Dodge Ave. The new Café will feature nourishing food, coffee and smoothies, and will provide training and job placement assistance to young mothers to enable them to successfully contribute to their family and our community by joining the work force.

The organization is working hard to raise an initial $50,000 through Kickstarter to purchase the café space. Learn more about the campaign and contribute >>>

Congratulations to 2nd Ward Problem Solving Team (PST) Officer Reggie Napier, who celebrated 24 years of service with the Evanston Police Department on July 5, 2014. I would like to personally thank Officer Napier for all that he does for the community and for the 2nd Ward!

Please save the date for a citywide meeting for Spanish-speaking residents on Sunday, October 5, 2:30 p.m., at St. Nicholas Church's Oldershaw Hall. The meeting will take place during Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs September 15 through October 15. Additional details will follow.
