2nd Ward June Newsletter: Free Lunch Program, Priority Needs Survey, and More!

2nd Ward Header

Greetings!

Dear Friends,
I hope this newsletter finds you well. As always, my goal is to keep all neighbors in our ward informed about upcoming events and opportunities they can benefit from. If you have any questions, concerns or comments, please feel free to contact me directly at pbraithwaite@cityofevanston.org, or 847-801-9386.

I would like to extend a special thank you to the residents and guests who attended our Neighborhood Meeting for Spanish-speaking residents on June 12, including Evanston Public Library Director Karen Danczak Lyons, 2nd Ward PST Officer Reggie Napier, Evanston Police Officer Efraine Gonzalez, 311 Officer Sandra Hernandez, Housing and Grants Administrator Sarah Flax, Community Development Intern George Kanoon, and 2nd Ward resident and meeting translator Jasmine Torres-Gonzalez. We learned a lot and really gathered useful information to better understand the issues that concern the Spanish-speaking population in the Ward. A few of the issues we discussed were: how City services can be better delivered, how to better promote and increase the awareness of Erie Family Health Center to help provide greater access to health care, and how City resources can help reduce the digital divide gap.

The feedback received at this meeting will help set the agenda for the citywide meeting for the Spanish-speaking Community to be held in the coming months. Please stay tuned for a date and location.

Our next 2nd Ward meeting will be Thursday, July 10, 7 p.m., at the J.E.H. Education Center/School District 65, 1500 McDaniel Ave. I ask that you please spread the word in the community about this newsletter. If you or someone you know would like to be added to this newsletter, please follow the link: cityofevanston.org/newsletter

Take care,

Ald. Peter Braithwaite

HUD logo

The City of Evanston has developed a survey to gather input from the community regarding the priority needs of low- and moderate-income residents in the areas of housing; public infrastructure and facilities; social services; and economic development. The survey will guide the development of the City’s 2015-2019 Consolidated Plan that governs the use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The survey is available online in English and Spanish through July 7, at www.surveymonkey.com/s/EvanstonPriorityNeedsSurvey. Please provide your input.

Those without internet access may call 311 to complete the survey in English or Spanish (847-448-4311 outside Evanston).
