Dillo Day, May 31
The student organizers of Northwestern University's annual Mayfest (also known as Dillo Day) invite you to join the festivities on Saturday, May 31 from 12:15 to 10 pm on the University's lakefront landfill.The day will include live music, food, beer garden (need valid ID), and special events, including an outdoor art exhibit.
Attending Dillo Day requires pre-registration and an official wristband.Evanston residents under the age of 19 can attend Dillo Day only with someone over 25 who has pre-registered them as guests.Attendees older than 25 can register up to four Evanston-resident guests under the age of 19.Go to dillo.mine.nu to register for a wristband that is your entry ticket to the event.Wristbands are free if picked up at the Norris Student Center in advance with proper ID showing Evanston address; wristbands are $7/person on Dillo Day. Dillo Day fireworks begin after the last musical act concludes, close to 10:15 pm.The fireworks show will happen on the University's lakefront, viewable from Long Field on Sheridan Road, and will be provided by a professional fireworks company in coordination with the Evanston Fire Department.
Plastic Bag Discussion, June 5
Following the City of Chicago's action to enact a partial ban on the distribution of plastic shopping bags, the Evanston City Council is proceeding with consideration of a similar ban.Please join the community and business discussion at a public meeting on Thursday, June 5 at 7 pm at the Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Boulevard.You can review the Chicago Plastic Bag Ordinance, which includes the phased-in timing over two years, application to certain size retailers, and specific exceptions.Share your best thinking on the issue with me or our Sustainability Programs Coordinator, Catherine Hurley, churley@cityofevanston.org.
