Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday is a day holiday shoppers are encouraged to support the small, independent businesses that help make their communities special. Evanston Symphony Holiday Concert & Gift Bazaar December 8th


The Evanston Symphony Orchestra, under Music Director Lawrence Eckerling, presents this festive Christmas Concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 8th in the Evanston Township High School auditorium. The event will also feature a holiday gift bazaar in the nearby cafeteria. Free Parking for Holiday Shoppers


Downtown Evanston parking decks will offer free parking after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on Saturdays from Thursday, Nov. 28, through Saturday, Jan. 4. (Sunday parking is free all year!)  Visit our website for more about which decks and lots are offering free holiday parking.

Mayor's Holiday Food & Toy Drive Through December 13


Donate online quickly and securely using our Holiday Drive payment site.  (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, & Discover accepted) or bring new, unwrapped toys and/or non-perishable food items to the lobby of one of our nine convenient Evanston drop-off sites through Friday, Dec. 13. First Night Returns!

First Night Evanston will return this year after an eight-year hiatus, and you’re invited!

On Dec. 31, 2013, activities will center around Raymond Park at Chicago Ave. and Grove Street. You’ll have your choice of 40 musical performances, magicians, puppetry, dance bands, food trucks, and activities for all ages. Tickets are on sale now.

Evanston & Northwestern Startups Present Ideas at Pitch Day


Founders from six local startups presented their ideas to the community at a pitch day event hosted at the Hilton Orrington on November 13. Evanston-based startups in attendance included education software company MyChild and Swipe Sense (pictured at left), which finished in the top 3 of the Wall Street Journal's Startup of the Year competition.
